Yeah it's definitely time to start embracing Mad Mad -style post apocalyptic haircuts, you either go Furiosa close shave or War Boys smooth shave or go in the complete opposite direction and have a giant wild 80s-style bouffant.

The 3rd option is a combo, sides shaved down to the skin and a big fluffy mohawk up the middle

4th option is a scary helmet that covers your entire head :kheldragar:

i mean thats all i got. basically two hours of morgues and packed ICUs juxtaposed with people partying. with IRONIC song choices like black eyed peas and poo poo.

Do you have a concierge doc yes/no? Because in isolation that's not super surprising - if fact one of my "going back to normal" conditions is that Paxlovid or similar treatments are sufficiently available that I could get a just in case prescription to have on hand if I went on vacation somewhere. But given what we know about Paxlovid supply I am surprised to hear any docs are doing that now.

Yes. Only some fraction of infected people need hospitalization, who knows the exact fraction at present, and being vaccinated prevents ~78% of those hospitalizations compared to the unvaccinated case.

I believe there are more subtleties in the calculation than this, but the point is the chance of hospitalization is low for non-elderly non-immunocompromised people and being vaccinated makes it very low. This is part of the reason why a lot of the public has gotten on-board with COVID being over, they're really not being short-term impacted post vaccination.

Not willing to lie about being immunocompromised at this time, but interesting. I'm glad you got it and that you have a doctor that understands the ugliness of the current situation.

Okay that makes a lot of sense then and your doctor sounds cool and good. Given how early you have to take it we really have to get to a point where at a bare minimum it can be prescribed by a pharmacist but better yet it's something that you can just get from your doctor ahead of time.

Welp, my wife's grandma is headed to the hospital this morning with what sounds like either a bad flu or pnemonia which means there is at least even odds she has COVID for the second time. Her grandpa died last fall when he got COVID a second time so gonna be really awesome if COVID takes both of them.

In the last thread I'd posted a few times about some friends of ours that are very Open Biden post getting boosted last year. They had a vacation booked to the Dominican last December and when they found out they were pregnant they decided to go anyway because of course they did. Then in January she got COVID because they joined a bowling league because of course they did. She felt like poo poo for a week but it was a fairly "mild" case even though she couldn't really take any stuff to reduce the symptoms. Anyway, their next ultrasound showed the baby being smaller than it should be so last week they had a follow up with a specialist. The baby itself is like a week behind how big it's supposed to be but it's head is two weeks behind.

That's right mother fuckers. Zika. She's gotta get tested to see if she caught Zika in the Dominican.

And I can't yell at anyone about how these supposedly very smart people did all sorts of stupid poo poo while my wife and I sat our rear end at home for two years and don't let our baby see anyone outside of daycare besides the grandparents (though now that the weather is improving and cases are lower we plan on seeing some more people outside) because you can't say "I told you so" out loud in this situation so instead I"m posting about it.

Our response to COVID makes our response to almost every other hazard seem completely ridiculous. Why worry about something that only kills 1,000 people a year when you don't care about something that kills half a million a year?
