"'Betrayal' is just an anagram of 'Believe Me'" - Borg queen.

I just watched the latest Picard, and is this supposed to mean something?

Nope. Everything was in that single episode. I don't know if they even mentioned her name in season 1.
IIRC they didn't even clarify what she was until season 2, because they kept giving conflicting answers where she was either an android, alien, alien android, augmented alien, augmented human, or part android (?!?)

This makes me wonder if they just threw a pile of money at the makeup team and said "make cool poo poo" without any other direction.

The Osnullus are a good example of this. The make up on them is distractingly good, but they have no lines, their name is never mentioned on screen, and we know nothing about this species. The only memorable acting moment out of the Osnullus bridge officer is when Anson Mount said she was going to be captain in the outtake.

It is pretty funny that they kept the actress on as a different character who hasn't really gotten any more character development; perhaps even less.

Really should be a machine race based on a species that had their biological forms go extinct and SOMA'd their minds into digital form on a probe they yeeted into deep space and was found by the Federation. Who were then kind enough to set them up as a independent and functional society. Could be some snags too in the whole process, like an episode worth of drama. Who knows.

Shouldn't the Borg be big on trust? They're a collective, you'd think they would have a nuanced perspective on it.

Is this going to be another season of star trek about past trauma?

Buddy, thanks to the queen, the borg can be anything the writers want, so long as they're lame monsters of the week.

Nah, they are all attention grabbing backstabbers. Just like the writer's room and, coincidentally, ever single other person the writer meets on a day-to-day basis. The world is full of fake friends looking to hurt them and they are the only genuine person out there. They let everyone know by having "no drama" on their dating profile.

The Borg don't need to trust each other, they share thoughts, it's literally impossible for a Borg to betray another Borg.

Oh, that's neat: in the 2024 abandoned Chateau Picard, there's an extra wing of the building which isn't present in the 24th century shots and matches the exterior shots of Chateau Picard from Family in TNG. Looks like the season 2 producers slipped that in to retroactively fix the discontinuity between Family and Picard season 1. I guess those wings are what burned down in Generations.

That makes sense, but shouldn't that make trust irrelevant to the Borg? The Queen was very adamant that trust is bad. I think the writers are setting this season up to be an origin story for the Borg.

Alison Pill is very obviously going to become a Borg Queen. Given Picard keeps stopping and looking meaningfully at her and saying "You need to work out how we get home" there's a chance that they're doing something really dumb like a paradox where the Borg ship at the past is actually her solution to getting Picard & Co back to the future and they accidentally killed themselves.

To be absolutely fair, if they are going to do it they're in the one circumstance where you might be able to justify it, where the Borg don't have their collective will behind them to overpower someone, and it's just one mind vs one mind. A plotline like that could be pulled off if done very well. Very easy to screw up.
