Heard about Norco from Austin Walker tweeting it out and Ren over at waypoint being effusive with praise, comparing the writing to Disco Elysium and Kentucky Route Zero. Having played a little bit I’d say the comparisons are apt. This is absolutely stellar writing. The mood also reminds me of those two. Check it out. This is one you don’t want to miss. Also it’s on game pass. https://youtu.be/PFVhJNfnxCY theblackw0lf fucked around with this message at 07:10 on Mar 28, 2022 |

I agree with those comparisons, but there's something else it reminds me of even more. A fantastic novel called Tropic of Kansas by Christopher Brown. The writing just called that book to mind so much, which is a good thing. It's not as pompous as Disco Elysium, but definitely there are some shades there. I like it a lot so far.

Apparently it releases today, but no news post just yet. I can vouch for it's quality though, even if the pixel graphics are a bit chunky, it perfectly blends first person shooter and rogue-something-or-another and it's only got better over time. This game has the worst feeling FPS weapons I have ever experienced Gonna give it the full 2 hours before deciding if I want to refund because it has some cool ideas and hopefully the guns get better and those overwhelmingly positive reviews have gotta be for something, but so far everything from pistols to shurikens to chainsaws to grenade launchers has absolutely no feedback at all when you fire, and the double barreled shotgun sounds like an airsoft gun. e: Actually the problem might be the enemies as much as it is the guns, they don't react to being hit and they don't have big obvious death animations like in other 2.5d boomer shooters so it feels like you're firing ineffectively a lot of the time deep dish peat moss fucked around with this message at 01:37 on Mar 29, 2022 |

I'm into it so far. My complaint would be that I'm not a fan of the cramped procgen levels, would prefer open arenas to really let loose, but it looks like it might open up later. Overall I dig it.

Metavaxx is a sharp shooter that balances mild strategy with good action controls. I'm not big on bullet hell shooters nor puzzle games, this one is my goldilocks compromise. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cI0FNuNwNak As I played it I kept thinking that if Cryptark had a way to disable the mission timer I would have enjoyed it as much as I liked Metavaxx. https://punkcake.itch.io/metavaxx
