It entered the postal service in Kyiv today, which is just blowing my mind. I cannot imagine what kind of dedication someone has to have to be doing this kind of business in the middle of an active warzone.

They figured with Russia failing to enter Kyiv, they won't need that armour any time soon.

I'm actually astonished that commercial postal service is still running. I thought everything would be geared up towards the war effort bringing supplies in and refugees out. Though by now, whoever is still in Kyiv right now probably have made the choice to stay.

I don’t know if this got posted during the Iron Eagle chat, but Anonymous released an internal memo of Russians staging POW propaganda.

Which is interesting because I’ve seen some questionable “Ukrainians shoot prisoners in the knee” videos popping up.

In fairness, entering the postal system in Kyiv might not be the same thing as leaving Kyiv.

It's possible that it just means the package has gone from their shed to the postal warehouse and will continue to sit there for the foreseeable future, which is fine (and hopefully means it's insured now).

Yeah, sorry, but at this point, believing a video of people getting shot in the legs on camera to be fake, but believing a random piece of printed paper to be true is wishful thinking.

I mean, I absolutely get where you're coming from, but if the video was some SFX job, it'd have been debunked by industry experts by now. And if you believe it's a false flag of Russians masquerading as Ukrainians shooting real bullets at real Russian POWs, the necessary logistics for that are mind-boggling. And whatever's the truth, the chance that these POWs live to testify as to who shot them isn't exactly great.

There are people questioning the video’s veracity, though. Lots of people have pointed out that the blood is on the ground and not on the soldiers, there are no marks on the ground from bullet wounds, the tourniquets have no blood on them, etc.

I can’t say one way or the other, but there has been speculation from the start that the video wasn’t legit.

When I was stationed at NAS oceana there was lots of complaints about the noise from the f-18s and then the base commander threatened to put the Base on lockdown again. I guess it had happened a year or two before with lots of complaints and they had just kept everybody on base for 2 weeks and the local economy stopped complaining so hard.

Mira Mesa would be a pile of scrub canyons if it weren't for NAS Miramar, but when I grew up there you'd hear someone proudly brag about living next to Top Gun within 3 sentences of them also complaining about flyover noise. It was a slower version of the paradigm that's killing local racetracks across the country: thing (that makes noise) exists, people move near thing, people complain about thing's noise, people try to shut thing down.

I will say, I never had an issue with the flyovers until the Blue Angels did a pass in preparation for the airshow that was so loving low I shook loose a turdlet while I was mowing the lawn. They were actually low enough I could read the loving flight lead's name stenciled under the cockpit.

I went to high school in Poway, a high school originally built in the middle of nowhere. 30 or 40 years after the school was built a bunch of new construction popped up surrounding it. Those people all complained about the noise from 6ish home football games a season.

This (a) purports to be a secret document signed by a Very Important Person; and (b) conveniently addresses a recent event (allegations that Ukrainians have been mistreating POWs). Absent outside corroboration, this one’s a fake.

Alan Smithee posted:

I've been wondering the same. From what I can surmise, it's very difficult for Ukraine to counter attack owing to the terrain surrounding Mauripol and its close proximity to Russia and Russian-controlled areas. Basically, Russia can continue to easily funnel troops from Crimea, the Sea of Azov, and Donetsk (areas where they already had substantial logistics hubs) into the area to offset their insane losses. This was also clearly one of Russia's top strategic goals from the outset (creating a continuous land corridor from Crimea to Donetsk), while its strategic value to Ukraine is minimal (at least compared to other areas). It wouldn't make a lot of sense for them to spend the resources to counterattack when they're fighting the Russians on far more strategic fronts (Kyiv, Sumy, Mykolaiv/Kherson).

With reports that Russia is starting to redeploy units from NE Ukraine to (presumably) focus on the Donbass, it may free up more Ukrainian forces to counter attack, but I expect the top priority is going to be taking back Kherson to block MSRs from Crimea, and shoring up defenses in the Donbass. Russia may also take another crack at Kyiv, but they're going to end up ceding a lot of territory with the retrograde operation they're conducting to consolidate forces.
