id really like to know what was actually going on with levar burton getting to wear that badass visor straight from the start but it taking the production staff like four attempts to seriously consider giving him more lines than a random extra

early tng marketing also didn't know how to talk about the characters - like levar burton got called the "new spock"

yea the early days of tng are genuinely fascinating because nobody seems to have a goddamn clue what they're doing. There was so much push/pull between 'uh are we doing the old show again' and 'we need to tell a different kind story' it wound up a mess.

Didn't they at one point do some ads that implied Worf may be, like, a bad guy?

The actress who plays tasha probably regrets leaving the show.

What I like about that episode is everyone is convinced they’re in mortal danger and at the end the alien guy is just like “we said this whole time it was just a game, you guys are being weirdos”. Also feels like a rejected TNG script which is why I don’t think it works here, you can totally see the TNG crew bumbling through that episode.

I think the episode is okay, it feels very out of place. The later seasons of DS9 are great because the characters are very fleshed out and they have a TNG approach to solving problems.

That being said in the later seasons a lot of the characters lose their personalities simpsons style. Dax becomes a snarky party girl, worf is the angry klingon dude, and kira is the angry ex freedom fighter.

yea I'm sure everyone would love to have Worf money or whatever but there's a lot worse hollywood regret stories than 'I still can make alright going to the con circuits and the residuals of the incredibly popular show I was only on for a couple seasons ain't bad at all'

it didn't help gene roddenberry wasn't very functional at that point and his lawyer was essentially producing the show

Lmao that some people still haven't learned that you only get cancelled if you let yourself get cancelled. All he needed to do was go on vacation for 3 months and 100 things would have happened that made everyone forget about it

3 months?! People will have stopped caring about it by next week. Hell, people already barely care about it now.

Edit: I suppose the Dixie Chicks were “actually cancelled” but even then it basically seems liked it worked out for them. They just do more shows in Canada and win Grammy awards instead of CMA awards.

Michael Dorn was cast because of tokenism

The original series was all about how Klingons were evil and they needed a token Klingon to let you know this is the new generation. Klingons are now on the bridge.

Michael Dorn was one of the few that would put up with the makeup. And then his character ended up being one of the most developed characters in all of Star Trek, because life is funny and Michael Dorn is a loving professional
