Lol I was waiting for patches before I carried on playing, but looks like I hosed up there!

edit: on the final boss of las vegas, I was being shot or tail whipped or something into the water. I'd get out of the water and before I could do anything I'd be shot or tail whipped again (I can't remember the snake boss' attacks, whatever) back into the water, and I'd have to swim to shore again. It literally happened about five times in a row. This was right at the end of the fight when I had it at about 1/6th or less, health remaining. My NPC buddies managed to kill it in the end though so my stunlock loop didn't prevent me from beating the boss.

Glad they're fixing slaughterspines though. It's meant to be one of the hardest robots in the game and yet everytime I've fought one (On Very Hard, using frost arrows and advanced hunter arrows generally) it's spent the entire fight screaming or trying to charge up, maybe fires off two or three attacks the entire time. A lot of the big machines have been like that in the late game. Thunderjaws, Tremortusks (because of their bullshit missiles) and Fireclaws (which can get hosed, those are TOO hard) are the only ones where the fights are even remotely challenging. As things are now I'd say Shellsnappers are harder than most of the end tier robots.

Wow that all looks terrible, glad I finished it last week and I'd now eye any DLC with suspicion because it sure looks like the devs are actively trying to make it less fun to play.

Maybe you should play ER then because I have a total of zero crashes on ER on PS5 in 160 hours played, zero times I got stuck in geometry, no gamebreaking bug whatsoever. I have less than 10 hours on Horizon and I got all of those multiple times.

ER was released in a finished state, Horizon wasn't. It's that simple.

Thats good to hear, I been waiting to play ER. The only bugs I encountered in Horizon were, 1 errand quest bugged, black screen every maybe 10 hours for 2-3 seconds. Other than the performance was perfect for me. I think there was like one fight where it dropped below 30 even on performance mode but other than that it was stable 60.

I think I just did the thornmarsh melee pit about 30 times. Each time I would open with a forward roll, then block breaker. Then I'd do a 4 or 5 hit combo, then hold r2. His shield would go purple and I'd shoot it and explode it and stagger him, then just spam block breaker. Assuming he didn't get pushed up the ramp, I'd get 3-4 of them off and be able to shoot a resonator blast right before his shield was back.

I broke his shield 4 times doing this, had him at almost no hp, and still ran out of time. This is on very hard. 3 or so hits and I drop but it doesn't matter because theres barely enough time to kill him even if I am perfect

What the hell am I missing here

I remember this terrible fight. I beat it on Very Hard by basically doing that but only using my resonator blast causing attacks for when his shield was up. It doesn't make an area to shoot when it hits his shield but it makes a noise and if you fire an arrow right after that it'll always break the shield (despite it not being purple) and you can hit him with a destroyer and other attacks, just make sure not to use a r2 once you've got another charge ready until the shield comes back up, then immediately hit him with a shield breaker or something else that's quick and uses r2 and go to town on him again. It took a few attempts doing this and it'll probably be a photo finish but eventually it all lines up and you'll win.

I'd say Fireclaws are manageable unless you're trying to harvest sac webbing, because then the bear has essentially taken itself hostage with a giant no-shoot zone over its chest and shoulders, and no cheating with traps or explosive attacks, either. That is a tedious goddamn chore that I've had to do a half-dozen times now.

Always annoyed killing one and remembering of right I was supposed to NOT hit them in their giant loving weak spot they expose half of the fight while mauling me to death.

Yeah it is to much, always the same parts too. Went back and upgraded some purples I’ve overlooked and I had missed hunting some of the other machines.

Upgrading legendaries has conditioned me so that often when I’m fighting a fireclaw without needing its sac, I have to actively remind myself that I can shoot in the belly.

Shoot it in the rear end with Focused Shot, NOT Charged shot for a chunk of damage. Hide. Wait for it to time out and resume the route. Do it again until dead. Slower, but works.

They are all like this. I perpetually have 2 cyberpunk icons on my home screen.

I actually paid an extra 10 bux for the inferior PS5 version of HFW on disc lol. Partially because of that and also I wanted to just be able to install the native PS5 version from disc without having to download the whole thing.

But this is a nice addition. I think I'm done with the game, though. I've done everything that I've wanted to do, though maybe I'll pick the game up here and there to do some Rebel Outposts. I am not fully maxed out for gear but
grinding to upgrade my gear just for the sake of it isn't appealing to me. Maybe I'll want to upgrade more for DLC.

Speaking of, there are a couple areas of the map people have been looking at as possible DLC sections, though it could also be cut content from the main game. Here's one area with clear structures and a name:

Beat the game at about 66 hours on VH. Had two legendary weapons unupgraded and a smattering of blue and purples at tier 4. Didn't have the pouches done either

It was funny the final fight was much easier than most other side quests, as the damage wasn't overkill.

Great game, I think my two issues are that the pacing is messy and that the weapon system is a mess. They clearly hated that the first game everyone just rushed for the purple bows, but it's time to stop having a million weapons and just have one base one of each type you upgrade more and more.

But those are minor quibbles. I thought the story was great and enjoyed how the writers just keep dunking on tech people loving stuff up. The characters were all solid and I loved Kotallo, he's easily my favorite npc of either game.

It really is funny the tenakth are focused on an entirely inconsequential war that didn't matter to history

Nottherealaborn

It really would be much better if there was one or two weapons of each type and you could upgrade it to include other ammo types and do more damage.

veni veni veni
Jun 5, 2005

Yeah the weapon system is so bad it's bonkers. It feels like both players and devs wanted to see it addressed after the first one, but the devs idea of what was wrong with it in the first place was galaxy brain poo poo.

Lobok
Jul 13, 2006

Say Watt?

I think they could still have a bunch of weapons of each type with the current system of unlocking more of that weapon's perks and coil slots, but eventually allow through upgrades or skills (like Hunter Bow Specialist) for any kind of that weapon type's ammo to be equipped on it. Then you could either buy, find, or craft improved ammo to suit your needs. Like maybe I want to have an Arctic Action Aloy that is almost entirely a Frost & Explosive build. Why there isn't an ammo type or trap for all elements and statuses I don't know.

I get that the devs want players to experience a variety of types and not just use the same one or two, which ammo customization might lead to, but just put some kind of cost to that customization we can work towards paying.

veni veni veni
Jun 5, 2005

Imo it would be so much better if they did

-one weapon of each type
-each weapon is upgradable to eventually include all ammo types for that weapon
-two kind of upgrades for each weapon, ammo type and overall power increase. (or rarity as they'd probably call it)
-Have the main story hand out critical weapon upgrades, weapon types, and ammo types so you don't get outright underpowered, but
-have everything else obtained via side missions and errands. This way the side mission rewards actually feel helpful instead of like redundant trash. I swear every side mission gives me a worse version of a weapon I already have.

I feel like this would make the rewards in the game actually feel like rewards instead of a sideways move or step backwards, and would solve the major problem the game has with weapon curation and redundant damage types.

and for people who really want visual variety with their weapons (I dont care about that personally) they could have "schematics" or something as a low level reward that are just items that let you change the look of a weapon at a workbench.

veni veni veni
Jun 5, 2005

Also I think the damage numbers are broken and I can't tell what the real damage is on things. I'll have to post a screenshot later but the damage reported in the weapon wheel is completely different than in the menu and I have no idea what to believe . I have no idea what is better or worse with some of my gear. Maybe there is just something I am missing and you guys can explain it to me.

Oxxidation

the ammo types are the main thing. the biggest benefit of purples in HZD was that you could easily cover pretty much every type of elemental weakness with a full deck of them. FW adds even more elements (several of which have questionable use in the first place) and is so stingy/repetitive with element slots that it's pretty much impossible to create a good all-rounder wheel. and that's a problem when its inventory systems are such a slog to interact with

the elemental canisters on the machines were also a good idea - obvious weakpoints, form chain reactions, usually separate from the machine's own weakness so you had multiple options for effective ammo types - but then the game starts to cover them all with loving armor plate

OddObserver
Apr 3, 2009
A problem with all the new elements is that they also make it harder to distinguish weaknesses at a glance. Then throw in some of the other non-elemental ammo types I never found a chart for and the icons are just a hard to distinguish mess.

Centzon Totochtin
Jan 2, 2009
HZD also had a pretty busted coil system where purple coils could have like +45% in 3 separate parameters (like an element, damage, and tear or handling all at once) so if you load up one with 3 of those (4 in NG+) any purple weapon could be extremely powerful. Forbidden west maxes out at like what, 15% for a single stat (and I think that's only for elements, stuff like impact and explosive are 12)? 25% for a few conditional stuff? A few weird elemental ones that give 12% to two at once? End game weapons can still be strong but are generally more focused in what they do

Yeah, I liked the game a ton but I didn't care for all the weapons. I complained about it in the thread a few times and in my long effort post. Less is more in this case. The vendors should be selling weapon skins instead of weapons. Doling out the weapons in story missions and tailoring the encounter after to that weapon would have been an amazing way to introduce people to the strengths and limitations of that weapon. This stuff was antiquated in the first game and was only solved because the weapons you could buy with the trial currency were above and beyond the best weapons that you didn't need to think about it and could ignore all the other weapons in the game.
