More DS9 terribleness: the Dominion occupied the station at the end of a season and just sat there for 6 episodes.

Yeah, the Dominion occupation of the station was handled the same way a sitcom would have handled a relatively brief change in office or store management.

The Dominion should have unleashed the Jem'Hadar on Bajor to begin the total eradication of the Bajoran religion. The Cardassians should have recommenced strip mining the Bajoran system to fuel the war effort.

I'm sure their were budgetary reasons for why it seemed like such a docile occupation, but it should have been Kira forming and leading a desperate resistance with unlucky allies such as Kai Winn and Quark. My personal headcannon is that Grand Nagus Zek and the Ferengi Alliance would unexpectedly come to the rescue, smuggling weapons and aid to the Bajoran rebels. Once the occupation was over, it would have been cool to see the Bajoran's and Ferengi become strong allies despite their differences.

Well, of course I know him.
He's me.
Ehhh, I’m willing to accept the Dominion takeover as is. As it aired, you had a cliffhanger that wasn’t resolved for three months and then six more weeks of episodes where they’re in charge, so obviously it was written for a much different time in tv where you couldn’t just binge the entire arc in a day.

I’m sure the budget was part of the limitation, but devoting almost 1/4 of your 26-episode season to that kind of status quo change is respectable.

So, why does the Supervisor look like a Romulan woman from the future?

In a better show, there'd be a point to that. She doesn't seem to be able to read minds or anything like that and had no idea who Picard was, so it's not like she pulled the features from some alien records.

And her people don't do time travel, so I can't see it being the Supervisor in the future timeline, watching over doddering Picard in his retirement.

There's no time travel required, she just lives a long time so Laris has been this same Supervisor the whole time, who first met Picard in the 21st century.

As they are the same as Vulcans, and Spock and Sarek aged a hell lot in the 100 years from ToS to TNG.
Must be the Irish in her.

Additional guess: the aliens sending out Supervisors didn't just pull people like Gary Seven from Earth, but have been taking people from all over, including Romulus, and keeping them on ice until they're needed, since 400+ years would be a stretch even for a Romulan. Talinn, altered to look human, meets Picard in the 21st century, something happens, she eventually leaves the Supervisor role somehow and becomes Laris. Zhaban was just cover. Poor guy. RIP.

Alternate guess: Q did it. Any resemblance of a 21st century character to a 24th, be it Laris, Raffi seeing a flash of Elnor at the bus, or Soong's daughter, is just Q messing with people as usual, don't worry about it

Huh, I was just thinking that Picard is giving me major 24 vibes; in the "Okay, we have a vague idea where things might end up but otherwise we're totally winging it between cliffhangers" sense. And that's with just 10 episodes to worry about, not even 24!

I think at some point either in the prologue to SNW or in an early episode, Pike is going to take an insane risk that gets some of his people killed because he'll think he's invincible until he sees the setting of his foretold death. Otherwise it seems like you've been given a cheat code to life

Didn't Voyager hurriedly justify it with some nonsense about how the holo-clothes were projected a fraction of a millimetre over your real clothes in the Chaotica black & white episodes?

Also the only fat people in the future are admirals and they don't waste their time on holodecks.

We've definitely seen Paris and Kim outside the holodeck in their Captain Proton outfits, and I remember Janeway saying that she needed to get dressed before playing Queen Arachnia. People show up on the bridge in emergencies wearing their holodeck outfits often enough that even Lower Decks used it as a background gag a couple of times.

The First Contact on-demand costume change was very much an outlier, not the norm.

I guess actually if you consider Disco, LD, and Picard… nu-trak is batting 33% which is.. not great but not as bad as it could be.

If SNW is decent we could be looking at 50% which I guess I’d take at this point.
