I listen to a long fentanyl thinktank video recently. Basically China no longer sells fentanyl directly (after 18? basically before Trump started the trade war.) China (and India) only sells fentanyl ingredience and the Mexican gangs put them together and sell to the US. Also the weight of fentanyl is 3 times lighter than cocaine for a given market, so the Mexican cartel start using drones to deliver them.

Does Pakistan has a straight parliament system? Only the majority of elected congressmen determines the PM? Do they have state election in waves like in India?

stephenthinkpad posted:Does Pakistan has a straight parliament system? Only the majority of elected congressmen determines the PM? Nope, it's all in one day and dissolving the national assembly also means that the provincial assemblies will also be dissolved. The government since 2010 has been a parliamentary one but like India it is hard to win an outright majority because of regionalism and tiny parties dominated by local feudals, so Coalition governments have to be made. The current fiasco is happening because the opposition managed to poach Khan's coalition partners to his side and even people in his own party. There was supposed to be a vote of no confidence but the speaker disallowed, thereby allowing Khan to call early elections. Whether this was legal or not is undecided and will have to go to the Supreme Court. Khan has also likely lost support from the Military (who has been accused of tipping the scales for him in 2018), likely over his Anti-American rhetoric. The Chief of Army Staff, Javed Bajwa just a few days ago made a speech saying that the US is a vital ally and that the invasion of Ukraine is unjust and that Pakistan should give Ukraine support. Make of that what you will.

It's basically upper middle class professionals and petty bourgeoisie as well as junior members in the military. So basically the kind of people who'd be cool with a military coup anyways. He's also been trying to court islamists with some backwards poo poo about Ahmadis and Women (He implied that women get raped because of the clothes they wear) which is why you see Pakistani Leftists being ambivalent about this. The guy was a beloved figure and he pissed it all away by getting way over his head.

I forgot to add that there are rumours that his wife, who is also a Sufi spiritual leader, might have significant impact on his policy. Apparently he won't go to funerals because she told him that it will lead to something bad happening to him. This backfired when a bunch of Hazaras in Quetta got killed and the community refused to bury them until he'd come to the city to address it. Khan got angry and told them that they were trying to blackmail him. Keep in mind that the Hazaras are probably the most pro-Pakistan ethnic group in Balochistan. https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2021/1/8/pakistani-pm-says-will-not-be-blackmailed-into-visiting-hazaras It gives me some real Park Geun-Hye vibes.
