Mr. Apollo posted:Jeri Ryan said they made them a couple becuase her and Michelle Hurd were at a dinner party and had their photograph taken together and someone said "You two are the hottest lesbian couple the never existed." One of the writers was there and pitched the idea to the producers. I feel like the vast majority of stuff that's in the show that isn't the direct central plot thread is there on the basis of 'sure why not?'

It seems like a lot of obstacles this season are resolved by Picard saying "I'm Jean Luc Picard" out loud. Didn't work for the Borg Queen though. Maybe the rest of the crew should try doing that in the next few episodes.

An interesting thread in that Season 1 episode 5 time capsule is a bunch of people saying "I hope they resolve all these threads by the end of the season" which is a saint-like level of patience compared to people complaining the Borg thing wasn't resolved 4 episodes ago. Really most of the complaining is about the violence level, especially with Icheb, which... yeah, gently caress that poo poo. I had no attachment to that character, but that poo poo added nothing at all to anything. Charity Porno fucked around with this message at 18:40 on Apr 6, 2022 |

If you watch all the season 1 episodes in a row, it's really not that bad* until you get to the final episode and all the dangling threads just turn to poo poo. This is one time the Netflix habit of dumping entire seasons in one go would work. * or at least you don't dwell on the stupid poo poo for too long. Like trying to make a Star Wars cantina and everyone dressing up and acting like they're in Cowboy Beebop. Not the anime, the live version.

The Romulan Incest twins sucked and the excessive violence sucked. Killing Hugh super sucked, the guy had fully de-assimilated and seemed to have a pretty fulfilling life and he just gets killed for reasons

I guess thinking about it, that is my biggest issue with Picard as a show. it either minimizes or flat out undoes the good the character did in his life. Seeing Hugh again, happy and not a Borg was really nice because it was something JLP was directly responsible for. I hope there's more of that stuff in S3, a victory lap of "look at all the good we did and how it reverberates" and less "nothing you did really matters up to this point because we're throwing you in a weird time travel/robot adventure with lots of death."

He was happy, he felt his life had fulfilled a good purpose, he helped the heroes accomplish what they needed. He didn't need to die but he went out gracefully and at peace. He knew he would probably be killed for what he was going to do to help Picard and gladly did it anyway.

It taking three episodes to start the Star Trekking and then the fourth episode being 'oh wait I know this is an emergency but I need to take a detour' was a strong sign that they didn't know where they were going.

Oh yeah and I only watched Picard S1 like three weeks ago. The one thing I'm most surprised to find everybody hates is Elnor. How do people hate Picard's himbo elven ninja son? He's dumb like a puppy dog. He decapitated the guy but it's ok, he's just a baby!

I like all the characters on the show, the first season was just a succession of terrible choices for the mood, tone, story structure, cruelty, plot, and theme. This season seems like they got that down but then shifted every episode twenty minutes later so now they all end weird and it threw a lot of it off again

I like Elnor when he's the clueless goofball comic relief but the space ninja stuff I can take or leave, at least in Season 1 anyway. Making him a Starfleet cadet was the right move, it should add some much needed dimension to his character, if he wasn't currently a corpse stuffed in a drawer in the 21st century, of course I don't know if I'd draft him into the Captain Rios Stargazer series but there's potential there
