I'm more curious how they beat the Borg. Even if they went full Military the Borg destroyed 41 ships with 1 cube and kept going, only losing because of weird Locutus poo poo. It seems like more ships would just mean more destruction

I am aware of what the point was, and it was still the wrong decision.

Jurati is such a hot loving mess. Her and Borg Queen are so camp.

Her walking towards the city reminded me of Jason walking towards New York in that one Friday the 13th movie, but her possessed and in that flowing dress also reminded me of Dana/Zuul in Ghostbusters. The musical number was so ridiculous, though I would buy a jazz band in 2024 would have that song ready to go.

She is such an amazing gently caress up I kinda love her. Like the more mistakes and gently caress ups she does the more I actually like her, I didn't really like her at all in season 1.

I fell behind on this thread and kept planning to catch up but just decided today to skip ahead and only read the last day's worth of posts. So I don't know if anyone's made a similar comparison, but Picard is giving me the sort of vibes I get from shows like Continuum or Dark Matter. Just a real generic sci-fi adventure. It's perfectly fine and completely unremarkable and I'll forget everything about it.

Which is to say, it's a massive improvement over season one, but absolutely not what I want in a Star Trek.

Big Mean Jerk posted:

- I know they had to contrive a reason to have Spiner on the show again, but I kinda wish they hadn’t since this subplot with his daughter is almost certainly going to muddle the overall plot and not be resolved satisfactorily. It’s just too much to handle when you’ve already got the Q and time travel stuff going on.
Yeah, but on the other hand, there being this unbroken line of Soongs who all look exactly the same and all obsessed with creating superhumans is hilarious. I like to think there was one in the 19th century trying to build a frankenstein and one in the 16th century trying to give people super powers through alchemy. And probably a caveman Soong trying to figure out which bits of which animals you need to eat to gain their strength.

That scene felt like it was from a completely different show. Even with how... generic and middle-of-the-road this show seems to be, that was too far. Funny, but weirdly out of place.

same at all this, except for the Mind Meld thing, maybe Renee had her guard down while Jean-Luc had his up, I liked the singing scene (weird that security didn't react, though), I didn't laugh, and I still liked the episode overall. There's a contradiction in trying to excuse the last Kore scene, which was executed well even though the premise made no sense: if Kore had never Googled her father because her dad somehow banned her from the Internet, it seems like it should have been harder to log on

My theory is that Not Laris is actually Q in disguise.

Anyways, I think this episode was good. Plot moved, the episode was contained within itself, acting was good. I just hope they aren't planning to for Santiago to stay in the past with the doctor because again, he should be the new Captain boldly going and what not.

I go back and forth on hating the Agnes plot and her being able to...hold back the Borg Queen. I've reconciled since she isn't connected to a larger hive its harder for her to do stuff and now that she is in total control, maybe it will be more even.

Also that dress game on point his episode for the female cast holy poo poo.

Picard isn't dead. Souls are 100% transferable to new bodies in Star Trek. He's no more dead than Spock in Star Trek IV, or Gray, or Culber, or literally any character who has ever gone through a transporter.

It was fun. A little bit of a groaner that they're retreading Soji's story arc from season 1, but at this point the show is decidedly entrenching itself into into camp territory so it's not a deal-breaker.

Loved all the bits acknowledging Picard's "everything" transplants in the doctor's office. Solid lol.

Stoked about the prospect of Jurati causing a Borg apocalypse in Los Angeles, which I suspect is the real divergence point.

I thought of this as well but it breaks the idea that she's supposed to be 100% hands off.
However, they immediately broke that rule, which brings me to another thing about this episode I laughed at.
24 years this woman has served as a watcher with the strict rule of non-interaction but, oh, "this time traveler who has a complicated relationship with a person who looks like me insists he help? Yeah, sure, whatever."

HD DAD posted:

If it was a memory implant thing, it seems pointless to constantly rename the kid and have them forget so much that they don't recognize any photos or video of their other selves.

galenanorth posted:

Yeah, Kore's incredibly adept at using that computer. Maybe it's some Severance-level memory implanting where she knows how to do everything but not why? Boy that's a hard sell without a decent amount of setup... like Severance had. And if that were the case, Kore would have to recognize and acknowledge that her memory was broken.
