Agent Carter was a fun show. Peggy and Jarvis were a great comedic duo.

AoS was a good hang that could hit you in the feels if you bought into the characters.

Unrelated, are any of the earlier Marvel TV shows worth watching? Specifically Agents of SHIELD and Agent Carter. It can be tough to find stuff to watch with my parents that we can all tolerate and MCU has been consistently OK for that.

Agents of SHIELD takes some time to get into gear, first half of first season is rough. It is pretty much case-of-the-week procedural but in MCU. However, by the time you hit one certain episode, it becomes very good, with occasional excellent storylines.

Yeah prior to that episode they were not even allowed to even suggest or foreshadow that any SHIELD agent could possibly be bad. It's not a great excuse for having an extremely bland opening run (surely they could have come up with something better), but given how almost-instant the improvement was I'm inclined to believe that corporate interference really hamstrung them. I'd say the latter two arcs of season 4 are the peak of the whole series, but seasons 5 to 7 are still worth watching if you find that you like the show and the characters.

Still love the forlorn look that's given by Ward when he dunks Fitz & Simmons into the ocean.

Kinda sucks that it's considered non-cannon, but it had well and truly jumped the shark by the end.. Season 1 is semi-contained enough it'd be pretty decent on a rewatch for serialised TV

I didn't like Agent carter, and my wife gave up on it too.
Agents of Shield swings wildly back and forth from awful to ok to even good and after the second or third swing we stopped caring and gave it up.
It tried too hard to fit in with the cannon of the rest of the MCU and that didn't line up with their filming schedule so like others have said, season 1 sucks because they needed a certain movie to come out first.

They stop trying to fit in with the movies after the S2 finale, which, not coincidentally, is when the show goes from "alright I guess" to actually being a great show.

It's also when the younger agents stop being so stupid and immature. S1 Fitz-Simmons are infuriating and painful to watch, but by S2/3 they become really fun and compelling.

Yeah I read those Men’s Health interviews, I’m a big fan of his, you’re making it seem like a much bigger deal than it is, and even Kumail IN THAT INTERVIEW is like “please don’t conflate what I’m talking about with real body image issues”

Edit: also he says that the Pornhub thing is what eventually helped him GET OVER his body dysmorphia, which is the line immediately beneath that.

The Ghost Rider thing will always be funny to me, because it was like, "Hey guys! We got Ghost Rider! No, not that one. The one who drives a car. What do you mean you've never heard of the Ghost Rider who drives a car?"

Oh did they? I think that's the season I stopped watching. Not really AoS's fault, I just got tired of watching ALL OF THE COMIC BOOK SHOWS around then so I kind of freaked out and dropped them all at the same time.

The slower burn is easier now (and the fact that I dropped the CW shows).

No, like each season had a different, TOTALLY UNIQUE, fast bad guy

Superhero tv shows shouldn't have 20 episode seasons. Hell, the 13 episode seasons of the Netflix marvel shows was too much

Oh, I thought Reverse-Flash was pretty consistent for the first few seasons.

I'll be honest. Flash seasons all kind of melt together in my mind. I can't possibly remember what happened when.

Reverse Flash in all his many forms has been an antagonist throughout the show, but they also had Zoom and then Savitar as the "big bads" of seasons 2 & 3.

And 22 episode seasons aren't inherently bad, it's just really hard to tell a single serialized story across that much television.

I actually thought it was pretty amusing that Each season they needed a new speedster villain, while introducing a new speedster ally, and a new character for Tom Cavanaugh

I didn't mind the island in the first couple seasons. The thing I recall is Stephen Amell's Oliver meeting Emily Bett Rickard's Felicity. In the two episodes before that, Oliver comes off as less superhero and more serial killer. Like Dexter with more arrows. Even with his friends and family (and theoretical love interest) he's this hollow person obviously playing a role so he can get back to pin-cushioning "bad people" as soon as possible. Then he meets Felicity and it's the first time he seems to be a human being. I have no trouble believing the backstory of the studio going "Get that cute blond girl with the glasses back here ASAP!" In the alternate show without Rickards that's in my head, Arrow crashes, burns and gets cancelled after maybe eight episodes.

Flashback talk reminds me of Jupiter's Legacy. That show spent the entire season doing half modern day and half flashback and boy golly was it boring as poo poo. I think I read somewhere that the entire first season spanned two issues of the comic.

No wonder it got cancelled.

Every time I read that show's name I flash back to Jupiter Ascending. I think I just want a series with a toilet-cleaning queen, a dogface soldier and Eddie Redmayne as an evil space metrosexual.

I feel like the ridiculousness of the dialogue is kind of the point. You've got this earthy working-class bloke talking about genetics and space royalty, and then complaining about how none of his crappy space-tech works because of budget cuts. It's meant to be weird and incongruous. Like the "oh I love dogs" scene is Mila Kunis completely having a brain fart and saying the dumbest thing at the worst time.

I have to believe it's deliberate. Please. I need this.
