I mentally filed it as a "Zeta Suit" but I suppose the Sea Serpent was added after its stint with the Titans.

This is something that puzzles me because a lot of the high power flagship suits have these super jacked abilities that don't translate well to tight corridors and killboxes. The Double X's twin satellite cannon would literally melt the whole stage. Are we just going to let it blast straight through all obstacles? (Didn't Hanzo do this in OW?)

If they don't nerf Barbatos somehow I can't see myself playing this at launch. EDIT: Seriously, 'melee only' is not that huge a drawback when every objective so far is 'king of the hill' or 'defend a bomb site from planting or disarming', and on top of that it has some of the best mobility in the game, can hold its insane damage stun at charge forever with zero mobility impact, and has a built in easy as pie combo to get a guaranteed kill on anyone it ambushes, while also having solid HP. If someone playing it is at all skilled then the match becomes almost entirely 'can your team focus it down while it dashes in and instantly frags before it dashes back out' Kitfox88 fucked around with this message at 02:07 on Apr 12, 2022 |

I'm not sure how overpowered Barbatos really is but it's definitely irritating as poo poo and unfun to play against. Even if you're keeping an ear out for the sound of its charged right click and keeping a mental note to check for jumps whenever you lose sight of it, the stupid thing can still just pop around any corner and instagib you. I get that they probably want to add more heavy mobile suits like the Sazabi to the game and don't want the game to become six fat boys behind shields plinking at each other, but Barbatos doesn't feel like the right check against that.

It's basically ridiculous but I assume is the "drawback" to it. I can't claim to be a pro on making an opinion about barb but I think as just a regular gamer I can classify barb as just "unfun" to get stunned and 2 shot around a corner. Wasn't there a JP only closed beta before this? Was Barb there too? Same thing? Most other things don't make me go "gently caress" when I encounter it. I mean 1v1 Sazabi does, but it doesn't feel as helpless as Barb stun. Also I hope they fiddle with how abilities come out. There's this kinda jarring disconnect between your throw animation and the projectile actually going out. Originally noticed this throwing the hyper hammer on the 78 (you can kinda get used to it but it still doesn't 'feel' good) and now with GM's C4 throwing. I've burned myself a few times early on throwing it with backwards momentum.

My thoughts on Barbatos are to pick one of 1) prevent it from holding the stun charge 2) lower its HP or 3) remove a dash charge. I think of these, either 1 or 2 is the best since melee depends on mobility to be viable, with 1 probably being the best option. If it's still too oppressive after that, throw another one of those options at it (but don't do all three at once for the love of god).

I think preventing it from holding and removing a dash is fine. I like the suit at 1000 HP since it's pure melee and still arguably the most mobile unit in the game but if you don't want to take away its ability to oneshot making it so Exia is very cleanly faster and more mobile does a lot.
