I think the biggest difference is that one comes from a class of effete arseholes who inherited every "opportunity" they ever got and use this to ransack their country for their own and their ilks benefit, whereas the other aspire to that but will settle for a couple of grand and a wink.

I have a relative who used to work in the civil service around the Dail, and she said John Bruton was a shithead bully who literally ate with his mouth open and had absolutely horrific bad breath.

I really like how the eggman has decided that the 2005 consolidation of regional health boards was a bad idea, so they're going to make six new ones but also keep the HSE for at least two more levels of executive abstraction bullshit between poo poo frontline services and overpaid fuckwits.

When he mentioned regional health boards I thought it sounded familiar. Wasn't that what the HSE was created to replace.

Ogra FF are trying to get a motion against Varadkar becoming Taoiseach while under investigation. Seems to be others in government with trepidation to that as well.

Giving how poorly FG are polling, I could see a push against him as leader before then. Coveney still seems the contender so it would be the ideal time to act. He could become Taoiseach without having to lead an election campaign. And Varadkar is already eligible for the Taoiseach pension so I could see him being offered a golden parachute to step aside.

Clare Daly made an rear end of herself today, which was dissapointing. I liked her when she was a national-level politician, but she seems clueless about how to react when there's a war on and the invading side isn't responding well to "can't we all just be friends?".

So the odevaney gardens homes the developers got as public land for cheap is being sold to parasite funds. Pretty much exactly as SF and PBP said.

All the assurances from the greens, socdems, and labour shown them up to be the party's must likely to have their wallets inspected at best, and FG lackies at worst.

Because every election they promise that all that neoliberalism was behind them and they're committed socialists going forward and of course the media report it entirely credibly

Husband and I’ve just been lucky enough to go sale agreed on a house a few weeks ago. Got it for relatively cheap and everything else decent had just been sold after only a few days on the market.
Problem is its in a mixed housing estate in Lisburn near a very, very loyalist one. There’s wee Nolan having a lad on his show complaining about mixed housing where the “dregs from west Belfast” go polluting the good loyalist areas (in our town specifically) aaand the DUP are putting leaflets through the door fear mongering about SF.

Maybe irrational but I’m honestly making GBS threads myself for this whole summer. Feels awful having misgivings when it should be a great moment :(

'cash or warren? I've been living beside macash for over a decade and its been quiet other than the normal "we support soldier x" crap hung up about the place. The inlaws live over near the warren and its also quiet, in fact its been very quiet over there (from what I can see). You should be fine in Lisburn, it's on its way to being more Alliance aligned (slowly but surely) and the DUP are starting to fade out (far too slowly for my tastes, but I’ll take it!), and its about time.

I'd also pay no attention to the shite coming outa Nolan's guests, all hand picked to play to the political theatre here. 'cept here its more a panto.

Thanks man, I'm just an anxious person anyway and this whole thing has riled it up.
It's 'cash so that's good to know, obvious but I don't know many people from a loyalist background (or if I do they don't talk about it) so never sure how much of it is commonly held frustrations or just the handpicked clickbait people.
If we can get past July with no bother it'll be grand!

Seems like the side effect of the NI protocol is that there's a backdoor there that's brough a lot of economic activity through NI on the way to and from the UK, and the DUP have decided that this doesn't fit with their goal of building a giant fence around the six counties. Them trying to demolish that little earner has pissed off people who value their own wallets more than having a go at them uns.
