Having never touched NG+, if I wanted to see the new ARR solo duties for myself, how much of a time investment am I talking? How close can I jump to each of them?

The Great Twist
It looks like ARR is broken into 6 chapters. You could start at chapter 4, right after Titan. Chapter 5 seems to start with the 2.1 post-game content.

The top slider under the preview window controls the angle of view; decreasing it will fit more of your character into the panel. Just be aware that this also creates a fisheye effect that could be undesirable if you zoom it out too much.

tbh if a mode is only fun when it's easier/you're winning and you aren't having fun playing against ostensibly similarly skilled people, thats a pretty dire review of a mode

If you are looking for the next great competitive mode in FF14, first, what are you doing, and second, it's Mahjong.

Like with ocean fishing the game is at its best when it realises it's never going to be that game and just makes everything dummy cool instead. New PVP is dummy cool, stop reviewing it like a nerd and go avant into a pack of tryhards and charm them as the rest of your team drops nukes.

no the difference is that all the tryhards are in ranked it has nothing to do with 'similarly skilled people' that'd be like chastising someone for not doing competitive modes in poo poo like overwatch

ok but, what are the tryhards doing to hurt your game, i legit do not understand if it isn't "making you lose more"? theres no communication in the mode so no one is going nutso on you in chat.

It's fun to gently caress around for some people, maybe win. When these people can play with each other and not against and/or with competitive, serious tryhards It's better for everyone involved.

It sounds like they’re encountering more people of an appropriate skill level in casual than ranked. And thus having better games.

Idk this seems like a pretty straightforward working as intended to me.

Agreed. "Countblanc" is being a loser virgin tryhard, while we are all only playing to have FUN. Something he CLEARLY knows NOTHING about.

Hope they add portraits to all duties. Been wanting something like this in cosmetic-focused games for a long time. Closest I've come across has been Warframe which lets you show off your landing craft during the load screen and features a cutscene of everyone's warframes dropping in at the beginning of a mission, but everyone including myself skips said cutscene. It can be difficult to see or notice what people's characters look like during actual gameplay. The forced lineup at the beginning of Prae was good for this.

On this note, I'd like to point out that the new Alliance Raid will select a character from each Alliance to serve as one of the adds during that phase of the last boss. It was very noticeable when I was suddenly having to punch a giant version of my FC mate's Namazu-headed lalafell.

They're looking to something more casual gameplay that's a little less focused on hyper focusing on winning like you'd find in a typical Ranked match in....any competitive game ever compared to the usually (Relatively) more laid back approach people bring in casual, non-ranked environments. This has been a thing since....ranked match making was added to video games and I'm not sure how this is a confusing stance for you and not something you see basically every day in competitive games.

My brother in Christ, the 'laid-back approach' leads to them winning more because people aren't trying as hard to beat them, which is exactly what he said

Nobody but Countblanc brought up liking casual more because it's easier to win. They said it was easier in general.

So again, this is just someone enjoying the less serious atmosphere compared to ranked, which is not something so incomprehensible or an indictment on the game play.

ranked is basically for people who like ranking and want to challenge themselves

the rewards aren't all that huge tbh so there's no need to grind ranked unless you really like a cool frame or just enjoy it

I don't think it's possible tbh. Apparently the frames are 488 bytes in memory which isn't enough space to have any kind of custom animation. I haven't poked in the data structure myself but there's not much more room than just equipment and character config plus the extra portrait bits.

One bid per lottery period. Choose wisely. Don't be one of the morons who bids on day 1 then whines about it. One interesting thing is the main wards have a lot more bids than subwards. This might just be because the people stupid enough to bid on day 1 are also stupid enough not to check subwards.

FFXIV mods can only replace existing files; if people have modded emotes, they show up as whatever the mod replaced to the server and also to anyone else who doesn't have the same exact mod installed. For example, I have the funny haha meme dance modded over the Bee's Knees emote, so when I type in "/beesknees" my game shows the Specialist dance, but as far as the server and people who don't have the mod are concerned, it's the regular old Bee's Knees dance that plays.

As for static custom poses, those can only be made with clientside programs and they are strictly for gposing. You can't even run the posing function unless you are actively in gpose. I don't think they could even interface with a system that sends emote data to the server, nor do I think the programmers want to, for obvious reasons.

It depends on how they've implemented portraits, but I suspect that, for convenience, it simply stores relevant appearance data, camera position/variables, head facing/eye tracking flags, and lighting, and then loads the portrait based off of that. Keeping track of individual bone positions, which is what Anamnesis interfaces with to create custom poses, would be terribly inefficient.

I wasn't expecting it to save the pose rather than the animation and the frame, i'm more interested in if you can get around the camera restrictions and if animations that aren't part of the player emote list can be used.

I would be very surprised if you could. Tools like Anamnesis solely deal with clientside data, whereas portraits are necessarily serverside due to having to transmit data to other clients.
