the foreign policy section of melanchons pamphlet was like a rorschach test for "leave the EU" and "leave NATO". i think the official campaign policy is "reform" and "leave" respectively but I sure as hell couldn't tell just from the document.

I don't even think his stance is particularly unpopular, maybe the Ukraine war made them soften the language

Would have liked Melanchon to win purely for the weird tirade we'd get out of Biden about "de Gaulle" pulling back from NATO

e: Christ, it is amazing to see just how much the LR vote loving collapsed this year. I mean, every Fillon voting département went for Macron this year, so it's not that different, but goddamn, LR and PS are just dead at this point, it's incredible.

Ideologically yeah, but it'd take a special kind of ghoul to get both parties on board with a new one.

eventually if the US system allowed alternative voices those legacy parties (and some of their ideological positions, even!) would get dumpstered. it's obvious you'd see an american lrem win some seats but probably not a commanding amount. before both lr and the socialists poo poo the bed five years ago, centries parties navigating between the two did fairly poorly

If Trump taught us anything it's that it is entirely possible that Le Pen is actually the harm reduction candidate. Which is goddamn loving wild.

There is a small portion of the electorate that will always vote like people bet on horse in a horse race. They loving need to vote for who they think will be the obvious winner even if it's a loving ELECTION and it's not the point.
Edit: there is a video of Asselinneau making the round where he "appelle à faire barrage à Macron". What a great troll candidate.

Generally when it's Le Pen or her party in a second round people call for a democratic barrage/alliance of all parties against her/them. Of course mister "let's get out of the Euro, Europe and Nato" is now calling for a barrage against Macron.
