In true 80's fashion the second installment faltered under the weight of having do a lot of worldbuilding, establishing the "rules" for the series, etc. There are worse ways to spend your time though.

My favorite thing about Top Gun Maverick from what I've seen so far is, if you asked child me in the 80s as to what I think a Top Gun sequel in the 2020s would look like, it's that. Like the Ghostbusters Afterlife film was cute and all, but it was very much a 20s movie, where with this they've really gone for doing their best to recapture the originals spirit and I totally dig that.

i think the best way to express my criticism of the thor trailer is how bland the music and editing managed to make such individually cool shots one thing is the typical marvel movie(tm), another is the typical marvel trailer hopefully the movie enjoys better production than the trailer kliras fucked around with this message at 18:58 on Apr 18, 2022 |

Agree that at least when it comes to trailers Marvel's whole deal is linking together a bunch of cool images that get you excited about the movie even if you know that it is just going to be another empty calories set-up for the next 3 movies after it. The trailer for L&T missed that mark somehow. There's a lot of stuff in there that should've felt cool or interesting but even when they did the Thor-Jane reveal at the end it was more like "oh, okay, sure" than excitement for me. I'm not the core demo though, so YMMV.

It does kinda suck when the best shots in your movie are all cgi renders. Marvel movies are basically animated films with live action elements at this point

Yeah they're pretty bad at matching lighting a lot of the time. I feel like I always have to qualify that I actually like the Marvel movies for what they are but the visual elements are definitely not strong points, even in the ones that look "good."
