Just a hollow phrase, a shorthand, without any real awareness of its transphobic roots.

Someone should really start harassing those guys by first asking them their religion and after that repeatedly insisting that there's no such thing as Christianity, only Jewish heresy. Again and again.

Grape posted:Really though? Think of the context. To clarify: The topic of the cartoon isn't Rwandan asylum seekers, it's the government plan to send asylum seekers from other countries to Australia-style camps in Rwanda. The joke is that the stereotypically British couple went out to sea on a pedal-boat and when they came back they were mistaken for asylum seekers and shipped off to Rwanda. Mac is absolutely both a shithead for treating these camps as "wouldn't it be funny if it happened to a real person rather than an asylum seeker" and a racist in many, many ways, but this specific comic is much more the former than the latter.

This is another cartoon where you have to be super duper transphobic to "get". To someone normal it's just a trans woman using the bathroom and no one is hurt by it.

Not sure I can agree there, the trans woman has a beard, along with arm and leg hair (which women obviously don't have...) and is a gigantic oaf, for lack of a better term. It's pretty clearly understandable as "bloke in a dress". I'm not agreeing with the point, but the intended reading of "trans women are just (pervy) men in dresses" is quite obvious. Also the hurting is done by violating a female only space in this logic. I'm pretty sure that most people, unconsciously at least, believe that the ladies room is off limits to men, and that any man entering is a violation. Again, this is bullshit obviously, but commonly accepted bullshit.

Yeah, but she isn't doing anything pervy. She's just using the bathroom as a normal human being.

She's in the "wrong" bathroom, which is pervy in itself. And she's standing up to pee and not closing the door.

It comes off more like a one shot story about an adult child, like that Robin Williams movie Jack or something. Like that's what I'm noticing. They're in the school and a childish adult has used the children's bathroom, and this is what the girls are finding strange (while also not seeming scared). Ishida is too much of a coward to fully commit to what he believes here and show the demonizing of a same age transgirl.

Dr. Stab posted:The idea that a man in a dress is a pervert is the transphobia that you have to be bought into to see it as bad. Yeah, my point is that it's something that Western Culture as a whole has been buying into for a while, so his entire potential audience can pretty much be assumed to have bought into it, unless they have actively rejected the link between man in a dress and perversion (in which case they are no longer the intended audience). In conclusion, society is bad, in a way that makes the dumb comic understandable to most people.

I will grant that it's definitely what Ishida would say the icon is if pressed, but that's more pointed than any gear icon I've ever seen. But fair point, when he decides to openly gun for the Jews, he won't be subtle about it.

Will that change in the remaining weeks of the election (see below lol). Broelman: ‘Albo, Albo’: Bluesy Albanese gets a mixed reception (SMH). Albanese got a mix of boos (when the audience expected to see Jimmy Barnes) and cheers (when he talked about his arts policy) at the Bluesfest in Byron Bay. Media is divided in reporting the reaction as either "mixed" or "deafening boos" depending on the narrative they are selling. Knight: Lethbridge: Herbert: Spooner: Former ALP PM Bob Hawke.

Also that shield appears to be a thick slab of solid iron, which is not something you want to heft straight up with a bent arm, nor anything you want exposed to an open fire while you're touching it. If you somehow manage to avoid crushing yourself under it, you're gonna get baked like a ham potato. guys i think garrison's grasp of visual metaphor and perspective may be no better than his grasp of reality
