Michael Davies was named as a permanent EP a couple of days ago. I'd've probably given him the job just on account of not being Michael Richards for a longer period of time than Michael Richards was executive producer of Jeopardy, but dude got some chops when it comes to game shows.

Good for him, maybe the writing will start getting better.

It didn't occur to me that Mattea might get it wrong so basically was being meek and ultra-Canadian and playing for second place in case Sarah went all in. KICKING MYSELF every day since! Argh!

I could really do without her literally under-betting every DD she finds and then complaining about her bad wager 5 seconds later. I get it for a bad category (see: me and anything sports), but she just seems absolutely terrified of wagering. She's far from the worst champ, but some of those quirks are getting to me 10 games in.

As are a lot of contestants. You should be excited to find a DD, but a lot of contestants lately react like, "gently caress I don't want to have to make decisions."

Time to flex on the right podium contestant, though. Her story was about reading 167,000 pages since she started tracking her reading in a journal in 1996. That number seemed low to me for 26 years? I checked my goodreads and in 2021 I have 47,351 pages. 47,520 for 2020, and so on, so I hit that figure every 4 years-ish.

I know I definitely skew really high, but I can't be that extreme an outlier, can I? Especially within the subset that is Jeopardy contestants....

I have to assume she misremembered the number on the spot (totally understandable, I wasn't confident in remembering my own numbers and I'm not standing on stage in front of cameras). If that's off by an order of magnitude, or meant that per year, then that would be ridiculously impressive.

For most contestants this is their first time on a game show , first time playing Jeopardy in said competitive environment , and first time in a tv studio in any capacity.

some people of course handle pressure from new environments better than others, but to be super real, it’s really intimidating. There’s only so much you can like, prepare yourself for it IMO.

I absolutely love her as a person, just her gameplay quirks wear on me 11 games in. It's something you don't have the time to develop with a contestant only there for a game or three.

I can't forgive the dumb wagering at this point, though, especially if you're clearly aware of it but don't adjust after that many games. It's giving the other contestants plenty of openings to dethrone her, though only two or three have been able to capitalize on that (and then blow it in final). She's so good, it bothers me to see her put the streak on the line by being so risk-averse. We could have a super-champ like James or Matt but who isn't an unlikable robot :negative: (i.e. a second Amy).

Ken handles her so much better than she who shall not be named, I think; keeps things flowing despite the interjections.

The flip side is that her lovely betting keeps her from getting blowouts, which makes the game more interesting to me in the latter half of double jeopardy and final.

Is she dumb at wagering just because she bets low in general on DDs? I don't see anything inherently wrong with that. Yesterday when she got the DD on the last clue, she bet perfectly to put the game away. Maybe there's been things I've missed while watching her run, though.

What makes it really obnoxious for me is she has obviously seen Jeopardy before. She knows this is not how people act on the show. It's not a show with a bunch of banter and quips. It slows down and throws off the rhythm of the game. Really obnoxious.
