Having played through Postal 2 and its expansion within the last couple of years as an experiment to see if middle school me was really on to something: I was not. That said, it's not an entirely horrible game to play and for free if it were legal to play it there are worse things out there. But the writing and jokes are quite literally all unfunny shock value edgy and the mechanics are dated 90's shooter without the actual quality. I've recently replayed Doom, Quake, and some Unreal and they're still fun to play to this day. Postal 2 isn't really. Every single enemy is a bullet sponge, the weapons feel and sound and look bad, everything about it is just lackluster and unimpactful. Honestly, the most impressive thing is simply the support, as it's been receiving updates for years now and they've managed to do a lot of things to it with new NPCs, NPCs wearing/holding items, etc. It checks all the boxes and technically works, so it's legitimately a video game you can play.

Postal 2 has like 2-3 ideas that are sort of clever and/or technically impressive for their time if you squint and ignore all the edgy and gross poo poo surrounding them. But those 2-3 ideas do not carry an entire game by themselves, and definitely nowhere close to the degree that they outweigh the sheer amount of toxic garbage.

I pass on like 2/3 of free games because I don't want them sullying my bespoke collection of beaucoup free poo poo. Postal 1 was neat. Installed the shareware version on a bunch of computers in an animation class so we could deathmatch during free time. I absolutely wrecked everyone because I knew how to handle the controls (in retrospect, they're awful). Got accused of using cheats, of course, so I told everyone I was and that the code was "quicken" "k" was the suicide button, so they'd look back just in time to see their heads blown off lmao Shame about the sequels
