Like I'm totally cool with Ukraine allowing for the death penalty to be reinstated for Russian war crimes. I know for many many reasons why that can't happen (EU, couldn't work for crimes already committed, etc)...but I'd be cool with it if it could.

If they leave it, it won't stay there. It may also be a damage assessment to figure out exactly what went wrong, which they couldn't really do while it was still on fire with unknown quantities of ammunition or rocket fuel or whatever in the hold.
