If your hens are kept in squalor or can't move very much they end up making GBS threads all over their own eggs. It's why the standard practice in the USA is to wash every egg as if it's been covered in poop by a caged bird. The bigger difference is that depending on their diet, fresh eggs can taste really different as well as having much sturdier shells. Storebought eggs usually have really flimsy shells. I don't actually know if that's just due to diet or if they straight-up sandblast the things or what. But when we have a mix of fresh and storebought eggs in the fridge, it's pretty clear which is which.
