We ordered a printer off Amazon and they emailed us a “password” to give the delivery person when they arrive 😂. Like we’ve got to engage in some embarrassing spy noir cosplay because our home address (where we’ve had more expensive stuff than a fairly cheap printer sent) isn’t a solid enough verification that it’s really us buying it??

Please do not mock Adrian Chiles' freezer.

It's actually a cheap and clever way of autoflushing that doesn't waste water like the 5 minute timer or require sensors or fancy fluid filled traps (or people to flush after themselves). Hot piss melt ice, ice water flush piss.

It also slows bacterial growth by being cold and decreases the smell because gases are more soluble in cold fluids.

Deliveroo was doing that for a bit. Presumably it's more for blocks of flats to avoid another resident just saying it's for them and taking it off the driver.

They did the same when I ordered a new monitor from them, and I was very glad. At least it would mean that when they went to the first building they found with a number 5 on it, they wouldn't have the password, and it wouldn't get delivered. I do put in my delivery notes "I DO NOT LIVE IN A FLAT" but that doesn't seem very effective.

They chose this delivery to find my house for a change, so it all worked out.

I got a password when I bought my Xbox off Amazon and I'm glad I did, since, despite both the doors themselves and the corner of the building having the house numbers on them, about 7/10 delivery guys try to deliver anything I order to the house downstairs, because my door is on the side of the building.

It's a two-way thing - they don't have the password until you give it to them either. Stops the delivery person claiming they delivered it and keeping it. Deliveroo do the same.

Fair enough, I’m clearly out of the loop on delivery loss/scam prevention. Still upset the password was just a six-digit number instead of “Walt sent me” or something worth putting on a trenchcoat for

You know this is a local election, right? You’re voting for councillors, not MPs.

E: If your MP is Lammy then you might be in Haringey, and I happen to know we have some good lefties running for Labour in the council there, and if you’re eligible you should vote for them.

E E: Oh the original question was about a general election, I’m an idiot. Still, local elections are coming up and everyone should check and see who’s running for council in their area.

I'm in a Conservative safe seat, of the sort where the local MP was most concerned about losing to UKIP/BXP, so my vote for any left-of-centre party functionally makes zero difference. However I really don't want to contribute to any 'Sensible Sentrist Starmer Surge' or play into their 'who else are the lefties going to vote for?' strategy. And it seems that any Labour manifesto of 2024 is not going to chime with even my drippy soc-dem sort of leftism and will probably be actively hostile to it. The Labour Party has spent the last two years publicly telling me to gently caress off and I am quite happy to take them up on their offer.

Locally it's a closer thing. My ward is safely Labour with LDs in second, the council overall tends to flip between weak Conservative control and no overall control. Last time I voted Green for the pleasure of making Keir Starmer sad and because the local candidate hit all the Blue Labour buttons. This time I'm willing to give Labour a vote locally if the candidate is a decent one.

I mean, yes? If my only choice is to move the needle from rampant fascism to marginally less rampant fascism, that's what I'm going to do.

Don't get me wrong, it'll be loving unbearable watching jessflaps and the mcshitter's faces as they proudly announce a decisive and final repudiation of Corbynism from the party, but the point is they have already done that; when they lost, when they did alright at a by election: they're going to flip it that way whatever happens.

I see so many times people getting mad and saying Labour are the same as the tories, and I just... Really? There's no difference? None whatsoever? They're both exactly the same? Have you perhaps entirely lost your perspective? There's not much difference, no. They're both neoliberal idiots fiddling with the dials as the ship goes down.

But given that there is currently nothing to vote for, it's the only option to make things marginally less poo poo. Not voting isn't an option since that just puffs up the share of the 40% auto-tory vote. Voting for a minor party, if it even registers statistically, is going to just be seen as another movement to crush. The lib dems are materially worse than Labour, even if the aesthetics and values are becoming the same.

The labour party is bad, but at this point I'm not voting for them, i'm using what little power I am allowed in order to say I don't want the loving tories. No, that will not bring about a thousand years of fully automated luxury communism, and it's barely moving things in that direction, but given that there are no ways of voting for that, I'm reluctantly voting for whichever party gets the tories out.

E: whoever wins we lose, so you might as well choose a slightly more bearable hell as the planet boils.

Our war against free speech cannot end until we silence this bronze beast!

I genuinely don't see much daylight between them now.
Theyr both neoliberal authoritarian parties who are fighting the woke left instead of doing anything good for anyone.

The tory party seems to be more committed to racism, but not by much and I wouldn't expect a hugely different tone from Kier Starmer re black people and authority. And Labour has already been failing all its own internal racism stuff.

Labour under Starmer would probably be even more warlike and petty authoritarian, they didn't even oppose spycops. Bojo is a poo poo but he wasn't literally covering up murder and torture like Starmer was. And the people who aren't Starmer are Iraq war austerity freaks.

E frankly democracy is too important to waste your vote voting for your political opponents imo, my grandad didn't avoid fighting in the war for that!
