i adore this game so i bought the artbook and it's got a ton of really cool concept art for early versions of many characters, though unfortunately not for everyone. i don't understand any of the notes and i haven't seen all the side stories so there might be some context i'm missing, also sorry about the cell phone quality pictures alternative covers: the thought of the cover just being, a triangle, is very funny serenoa's mom: do you ever actually see her in the game? benedict: frankly happy he lost the mustache erador: looks like he was originally gonna be a scrawnier swashbuckling swordsman type frederica: updo frederica is powerful rudolph: wolf buddy!! the little sketch of them as small is so cute julio: looks like he was related to landroi? i know nothing about julio i benched him immediately because i hate his eyebrows lol hossabara: scholar mode?? maxwell: originally had some gnarly scars under his mask, and earlier masks weren't nearly as dashing archibald: hello it's me, a fire emblem early game bandit boss ezana: went through several different designs, i really dig the purple eye dress lionel: i have no idea who this lady is but anyone who bullies lionel is alright with me trish and travis: putting some punks in their place decimal: went through quite a few different designs, including a maid lol quahaug: bondage mode?? giovanna: is this even the same person? saints: some early designs for sorsley and exharme maybe, and a lady who is perhaps an assistant to exharme or lyla? maaaybe lyla herself but i don't see the saintly sash medina: her final design more or less but i like the sinister smile Looper fucked around with this message at 06:47 on Apr 23, 2022 |

Elephant Ambush posted:Congrats! What I ended up going with was: Most of the team clustered on the left side of the pool, with Narve, Ezana, Benedict, and Medina in a cross pattern to Medina could burn most of my ranged HP pellets giving everyone TP. Jens and Julio alone on the right. Julio kept feeding Jens TP so he could drop spring traps along the side of the pool, knocking anyone who tried to get out of it in. Narve and Ezana kept using the TP Medina fed them with to drop lightning in the pool (with occasional double turns from Benedict). Everyone else, including Serenoa, Hughette, and Frederica locked down the left side and tried to kill the hawk riders that didn't fly into the pool. Avlora stunlocked herself because she kept trying to go for Jens but he always had a spring trap on the only square in front of him so she just kept getting knocked back lol, Jens is my favorite Killed both healers fairly early and then was able to pick everyone else off. Only unit who died was Milo and that was just because I overextended her to finish off the last mage and Avlora got her. Then everyone else just ganged up on Avlora and bursted her down with Hawk Dives, Blazing Chains, and arrows.

Well that explains why the Mental Battles take place at the tavern, he was thinking about his mother and how Regna told Serenoa how he picked up wife at tavern like so many other veterans in the saltiron war, having to pay with her body before Symon decides she would deserve a better life and pretend to establish an relationship with her. That said, it seems ironic that the first battle, all three kids save roland are born from prostitutes/concubines. I think this also brings a bigger picture of Benedict's relationship with Destra is he basically spared nothing to be someone Regna would admire, paying for her education and protecting her from detractors who spoke out against their relationship until the day of betrayal where she was denied a chance for marriage that broke Benedict.

Finally finished the game last night after setting it down for a little bit. I finished with Frederica’s ending and there were honestly a few moments where I thought this was the best ending. Sure Serenoa dies and Norzelia falls into decades of blood and salt but also Serenoa’s growth into someone willing to die for his beliefs and granting an oppressed people a chance at a better life feels way better than what I imagine the other two endings to be. Also the moment where the screen turns gold and highlights him saying “I will never regret walking down this path with you” felt like a “you got the good ending” signifier but I guess not. Probably should have not burnt down those houses and not asked to speak to Norzelia’s manager when I noticed salt smuggling but w/e I’m pretty content with what I got. I may end up going back later for the true ending but now I’m gonna go burn down another church with a passionate young woman who takes absolutely no poo poo in FE3H. Also the gameplay continued to have good synergy with the story. Frederica was one of my most powerful units and got a bunch of really great moments in battle. repeatedly using Burning Chains on Kamsell directly in front of the Goddess statue? Badass. Finishing off all three of the final boss’ Deus ex Purple Horses with one perfectly placed ultimate? Badass. Going back over the bridge to conduct a 5-on-1 beat down of Idore with her husband, her teacher/confidant and the rest of their crew? Badass as gently caress. Frederica owns, Benedict and Roland can get hosed. ^burtle posted:Enjoyed the first hour of the demo enough to snag it. Yes, yes, yes, and while I dunno where I'd rank it compared to FFT (I haven't played it in forever so I'd have to go in fresh) if nothing else both FFT-lovers and haters agree that Triangle Strategy is good so that's something! Also there's a demo and your progress carries over to the full game so it's worth grabbing that.

So I lost the vote in ch. 7 part 1, everyone was "might as well be talking to a brick wall" on the Hand over Roland side. I think Anna was the deciding factor as I had a dialogue option still unknown with her. What was it? I already had the one about the secret weapon and Maxwell's sacrifice, and I thought I talked to everyone

You need a minimum amount of conviction of one of the three to even convince people. Believe me, this happened when I tried to get golden path on my first run and literally couldn't even with the right answers.

That might actually be what you needed. I don't remember where you learn it, but I'm pretty sure the town is literally the only place it could be. Try moving the camera around during exploration phases and look at the town from multiple angles, and check which houses you can enter. There's sometimes NPCs and loot hanging around hard-to-spot corners.

I wouldn’t recommend trying to get the Golden Path on your first run, to anyone who is thinking about it. The final chapters require you to split your forces into three groups and you will be putting together very weak, incomplete teams to fight in those battles. I’m currently getting all my characters to lv 50 and maxing out their weapon skills in preparation. I’m also playing on Hard in NG++ where every enemy is lv 50, but still.

If you are the type of person that likes to level up all your dudes it's possible to do the golden route your first time through although not every deployment slot will be filled. I did it on normal, not hard, though; I imagine hard golden first time would be more challenging. I had trouble with the first battle of hard ng+!

The splitting of the forces thing came out of nowhere and made me hate that I couldn't upgrade everyone. That said, I also don't think I'll be replaying the game for a long while and it's nice to know what the "true" ending is. If you're absolutely loving the game and already know that you're going to turn right around and play into NG+ then don't worry about it.

Hossabara kinda rules, you guys. She heals, she's tanky, and she can bust heads and get ledge kills. Letting her get swarmed on purpose so everyone else can combo-heal her way back out is a hoot. I gave her the Regen and Reraise accessories and now she's an invincible one-woman MASH unit.

Based on what I've seen, most people miss the extra options because they miss houses or buildings that you can enter. To be fair, they are not well-marked, so they are easy to miss if you're not spamming the A button on every wall or object like it's Final Fantasy VI. It took nearly two hours, but I got the remaining party members up to 50 (including getting one unit from level 10 up to 50). And I did it incredibly inefficiently, too. I learned that follow-up attack experience gain is capped at 60 EXP (I think, therefore, you may get 60% of expected experience with a follow-up attack?). I'm not sure what to do with Picoletta. I believe she has the highest evasion of all units (maybe save Groma + desperate evasion), but since she's not a front line fighter, it only really helps with avoiding archers. Decoy is good, but fragile even at level 50, and the last time I saw it explode, it did a whopping 75 damage to enemies with over 400 HP. Copycat is functionally worthless, since it can not only fail (why?), but the ability you copy requires TP to use, uses her mediocre stats to perform, and can be used only once. I think a lot of the early fervor for her was based on early missions. Even then, I found her to be very meh. Again, I keep ignoring her enhanced item usage, but I never have the cast items I need (and that money is reserved for potions and materials for weapon upgrades, currently). Looking back at the information log, you could have learned about Serenoa's Duty while visiting the Roselle Village, and Glenbrook's Three High Houses which I think is from the pre-tournament festival in chapter 2. Some information can only be found before the vote comes up! The former is probably the missing option, but I doubt it would be the optimal one for swaying Anna. Sounds like you've just been a bit too utilitarian to convince your allies to take unnecessary risks! E: out of curiousity, did you also try to convince Anna to hand over Roland and deliberately pick the least convincing choices? I dunno if it'd work there, but it has to work somewhere Zulily Zoetrope fucked around with this message at 19:43 on Apr 25, 2022 |

Yeah the terminal, untreatable Elixir Syndrome I contracted from childhood FF6 is exactly why I ignore both of the item specialist characters in this game. It aggravates my condition that in this game cash resources are tight. Therefore I'm suing Nintendo for $1k for my distress and $1m for the wrongful deaths of all the characters that could have been saved if I could have used Medina.

Picco is the solution to hard AI. The Hard AI will often just choose not to advance if they perceive that they will die or deal insufficient damage from walking into your attack zones. As a player, you will also recognise that walking a unit into multiple enemy aggro ranges is suicide. So maps can often just end up with two balls staring at each other from across a map. Decoy changes this calculus significantly because the massive damage it takes makes the AI break formation and allows you as the player to murder whatever poor idiot takes down the decoy. On lower difficulties it will also just eat like 3-4 actions easy, which is very useful. And finally Picco stones are just a very reliable and easy source of damage since her firing arc is so good.

Isn't there a strategy document in Notes that talks about the use of cavalry, and it says something like "perhaps you'd want to make a small squadron of three cavalry so they can support each other when distant from your main force" and then in the game you get one (1) actual cavalry unit because no I don't count a unit with only five movement as cav because five movement is what so many foot units have. The units with "jump and then act again" techniques are effectively cav by my standard of "exceptional mobility" I guess. But they don't have horsies.

I just realized one detail is Benedict's main struggle is with Exharme and Frederica's ending actually hurts more for the guy because he never gets his revenge on him, up until that point Exharme was always one step ahead of him. Try to hide Symon's condition, he already knew. Try to align with Sorsley to beat Alvora, surprise it was Exharme who won, not him. Have to hand over the Roselle, have to work with Hyzante knowing Wolffort will owe their existence to Hyzante either way. I think this is why it was doubly important for Serenoa to visit his father. He needs to realize how Benedict needs support in a way that doesn't force him to be a manipulator but someone who's talents are realized, otherwise he is going to spend the rest of his life being used by others in hopes for validation. So having Benedict fight Exharme on Wolffort is also symbolism of him knowing where he needs to be, letting the youth chase their future while he atones for his mistakes of people thinking his great strategies as nothing more than short sighted decisions.

I had a similar experience. Had to grind out a lot of units and figure out what the minimum I could do the first battle with was. But overall it was the most fun I had in terms of actually having to use strategy in the game. First fight I actually made a lot of use out of Piccoletta as her decoys were perfect for luring enemies into the "kill zones". Second fight in the sequence was the hardest for me, but I lucked into a situation where I was able to assassinate the leader by luring him onto the tower and using other units as suicide decoys to draw fire. While my mages blasted him to death, it was drat close though. Victory came after 5 of so tries but it was something I don't think I could have repeated because it was so lucky the way everything happened to fall. Third fight was easy because that was the majority of my A team. I wish there had been more fights like that throughout because I love getting to use the full lineup of units in games like this. That's my FF6 love.
