Overwatch wasn't really an instant hit in that way. The models got ripped during beta/closed access, meaning that there was half a year? or so where it slowly built up interest and momentum before the game officially released.
I remember it fairly well because Blizzard went on a full scorched earth crusade against Overwatch porn when it released, carpet-bombing with DMCAs and takedowns.
All the reuploads and etc after it made it seem like a ton more stuff was being made immediately, because of a half-year backlog getting reuploaded or reposted. (Boosting visibility even more.)
It was a smash hit, but it did have half a year of buildup to get to that point.

Battleborn, meanwhile, had Gearbox's CEO tweet 'Hey guys lol there's a porn subreddit of our game!'... a day or two after said subreddit had been created, with almost no posts.
Which very strongly hinted that he or someone at Gearbox might have made it, and scoured the internet to find 1-2 drawings to repost there before tweeting about it.

In Bully if you ace all your Geography tests then you can see every collectible on the map. In GTA you're hosed if you want to find any do-dads without a phone app.

Bully has no checkpoints in missions, so they're all easy to compensate and you only have to win at them once. Now a mission isn't considered beaten unless you can beat it by skipping every cutscene and kill with 95% accuracy.

Bully ties it's progression system to attending classes, which is appropriate for the setting. Aceing a class gives you a perk or a cosmetic. Theres bugger all progression in GTA outside of a boring stat-gain system.

Geography class was added in the 360 version, so originally you still needed pen and paper

Randy Pitchford, the CEO of Gearbox was apparently jealous that people were making Overwatch porn I guess, so he tweeted out something to the effect of "Woah, someone's made a subreddit for Battleborn porn! That's weird!"

It was basically empty and probably made by Pitchford himself to try to get people talking about Battleborn.

I fuckin' love Bully, and hope every day for a sequel. I'm a huge sucker for "home base that you can upgrade/gets upgrades based on story progress" (my favorite feature of the new Kirby), and I loved searching the dorm room after every mission to see what new item was on the walls.

GotG has choices (either direct dialogue choices or just stuff you can do) that seem like they’ll make for interesting changes in later play through, but by the end it’s pretty clear that there are objectively right and wrong choices and the only real change is making things easier or harder. Not a big deal but kind of disappointing in a game with some pretty solid writing

I'm playing the Alan Wake remaster and man, I always forget there are vehicle segments and that they're really bad. It's so dumb and clunky, and way too easy to get stuck on terrain.

Vague memories, but I think they're leftovers from a planned more open-world style? If so, that'd be pretty bad if it felt like this, and they should've gone a step further and just replaced them with an "and so Alan drove across town" cut.

Dark Souls 3 - I found an NPC offering respecs! But, to get one, you have to offer 5 items that are only obtainable from online or by grinding a low% drop from two enemies that aren't pushovers. It took me a few hours to get enough items for her ring, I don't want to be grinding them for a respec:/ There are a few strewn around the world, but I don't think I'd found five:(

Also the backstab mechanic is inconsistent - sometimes you get locked into backstab animation, but the enemy is not locked into "being hit by a backstab" animation, so you have to frantically dodge out of the way. I much preferred the way Bloodborne did it, since it was consistent, but truthfully I'd rather it just wasn't bugged at all.

I’m playing Elden Ring and this has happened a few times, which feels silly because half of my backstabs have been by using the new sneak mechanic to shank a dude sitting down so he zooms upwards to prime himself for stabbing anyway.

Replaying Cyberpunk because I got a PS5. I know it's a technical limitation thing but man it sucks that the ray tracing doesn't effect reflections and lights, only shadows.

Also the gunplay still sucks. I thought it was because it barely ran on the PS4, but nope.

Also, why the hell can't I change the controls on the PS5? That's just bonkers on a 2021 AAA open world game.

I'm on PC but for Dark Souls 3 there is an exploit that lets you freely and infinitely respec without using any consumables. Pay the tongue, respec your stats, then kill the game while still in a conversation. Your character will be changed and you will still have the tongue in your inventory.

Maybe I read wrong, but I'm fairly certain the message - for both reallocate stats and change appearance - was to pay 5 tongues. I'll check later.

If the exploit works, then farming 5 tongues just once may no be such a pain, and anyway it's not like I want to experiment much.

After playing Nioh 2 with its easily acquired Books of Reincarnation I feel really restricted, but different games, different rules:)

Cyberpunk has a fair few things that make sense for this thread. Like how the game talks up how important it is to be stylish, and then gives so few clothing options that actually look any good, and every random NPC is dressed completely randomly.

Or how you can't turn off your hat.

Or say "gently caress the police, I'm not working for them" in a cyberpunk game.

I was wrong - it doesn't actually say how many tongues, only that “the price is paid in pale tongues“. So it's entirely possible it's 1 - still requires grinding, but I can live with that.

Battlefront (2015) and it’s sequel allowed you to play in first or third person and it worked really well. Of course, playing in third person gave you a poo poo ton of advantages over first person.

I’ve been doing a bit of Warhammer 3 and there are a ton of events that can occur during the map mode that can modify your money, armies, or faction specific gimmicks, but when the event window is open the game won’t let you minimize it to see what your values are.

Oh, this event will reduce the growth in the province I choose? Wish I could look at those rates before I decide but it looks like I’m just gonna guess and hope I didn’t choose a bad one.

Have to agree. I could reliably get to Hell pretty much any run in 1, but if I make to Neo Babylon in 2 I'm lucky. It doesn't help that if you want to kill either if the end bosses, you absolutely need sticky bombs. So if you haven't gotten them, good luck . Never even tried to kill the secret end boss or get the to eggplant level. The main thing I dislike about Spelunky 2 is how some items are almost either crucial (like sticky bombs or climbing gloves) or basically useless, like the boomerang or teleporter.

It sucks to pop open a crate and get a machete, when it could have been a bomb pack.

If you do already have one then you just need to speak to Rosaria and choose “Reallocate Attributes”. You can only respec five times in Dark Souls 3, each time requiring five pale tongues to do it.
