I have asked a majority of my friends why they even still have a twitter, and they have all unironically answered porn. The only exception is my one weird friend that spends too much time on Kiwi Farms. They use over 20 accounts to piss off anyone talking politics as a form of weekend entertainment. To each their own i guess.

My main concern about changes to Twitter is that it's going to go all in on just allowing any and every bit of misinformation to spread like wildfire now. It all comes off as hilarious and no big deal to your average person, but it badly affects vulnerable groups of people.

Truth Social is only staying online because their hosting provider was specifically created to host Truth Social and be a champion for the app. I imagine if Twitter goes the way of being wildly unmoderated, AWS (or whoever the gently caress is hosting Twitter) is gonna have some thoughts about that, and they might threaten to stop hosting the site. My conjecture, based on Elon's prior activities online, is that Twitter will become his ultimate pump-and-dump grift for crypto and stocks. He can use the algorithm to pump up the companies and "currencies" he wants to profit off of, without having to be so obvious about it on his personal account. Heck, he could even make it payable service for other companies to use to pump their own imagined worth. Even though it recommends a variety of topics to them, it's even easier for them to fall into an echo chamber of stupidity that hits Zoomer brains in that particular way older generations scoff at. Instead of Facebook and Twitter being their source of a worldview and entertainment, Tiktok is far more accessible to them and requires less attention to use, making it even easier to assimilate whatever trash takes they willingly soak up. Being the generation that grew up using tablets and having unlimited on-demand entertainment while in diapers, there's some weird psychology going on with their trust and fondness for screens. In my opinion of North American Zoomers, their overall computer literacy levels are terrible, what to speak of their critical thinking skills when using digital sources of information. I am a teacher, and kids these day are so happily willing to give up deeply private information online that it's legitimately shocking to me, and I keep getting shocked over and over by how loving stupid these kids are. If it's not Tiktok or some other social media site, it's whatever else will be the next hot thing. God, they're so bad at internetting.

It's also influenced the rest of the internet too and destroyed the ability to have a productive conversation about anything in most places a good chunk of the time because everyone just wants to stupid argue and be mad. Imagine if, when any social media platform hits a certain amount of active users, they are required to stop allowing new users. A cap on how many people can use one specific dumb platform. Overnight the rules change. Also I like my twitter. I make shitposts, I only look at shitposts or stuff from people I actually know, and if I keep seeing stuff from people I don't care about (anything not a shitpost) I gently caress that poo poo right off. So now my feed is pretty much just shitposts, and that's pretty cool. I think it's the opposite of what most people use the tweetering for tho.
