I can confidently say that Beast Breaker owns, and I'm sad that it didn't get too much press because it launched on Epic and the Switch.

Yeah, it's a pretty fun game. Haven't played Peglin, so dunno how it translates, but its just good by itself.

I was sort of hoping, based on the first bit of the trailer, that it would get less philosophical and more absurd in its questions. ie "Oh you won't push Jim onto the tracks. Okay, but what if I told you Jim was actually Hitler's descendant?" -> answer "Okay now what if I said that I had proof he grew up to be a hitler, but for robots?" -> answer "Ok now what about..."

I mean I guess that'd probably be a less interesting game overall....but still

Did you play it? That's KIND of how it works. It expands on that same moral conundrum in a bunch of interesting ways, sometimes adding details at the last minute that make you question your decision. I think the most interesting one for me was a pretty simple variation: the normal trolley problem is pulling a switch which will kill one person so five people won't die. This one was imagining that there are five people who need organ transpants in a hospital or they will die. A traveler walks in and somehow ends up being a perfect match for all of these patients. Do you take this person's organs in order to save five people?

I think that was the first one where I questioned a little bit the utilitarian approach, lol. In ultimate terms it's no different from pulling the switch, but of course it IS different.

Of course the thing that bothers me is how a lot of the questions just don't have enough context. In real life you'd generally have a lot more information than you get which is one of the things that make them so difficult.

Anyways,

With all the delays and the jokey trailers making fun of the delays, I was about 80% convinced that the Ultra Deluxe edition was just an ongoing joke bit Davey Wreden was doing on Twitter until the steam store page for it actually showed up.

Played it for a couple hours tonight and just at the point where I was going "wait is there actually really any new content in here?" it gets, well, there is a lot of new content.

Don't want to spoil anything, but I'll just say that there are more buckets than I expected and the "skip button" ending is existentially harrowing.

The new content is very, very clearly marked, and you can simply hold off starting that until you've explored elsewhere.
I've noticed what I'm pretty sure are some tweaks and additions to certain parts of the 'old' content but if you've never played before you won't even notice and it's nothing important.

I like the game a lot - playing the demo that Swilo linked is absolutely the way to go though to see if you like it. If you liked the demo you'll like the game. If you don't, there's nothing in the full game that will change your mind.

yes, you should play the original content first because the remakequel content discusses some of the ideas present in the OG content, and it is funnier if you understand the jokes set up by the original

when you boot the game, it will ask you if you've ever played the game before. i dont know for sure what happens if you answer no, but i think it takes longer for the new content to appear. the new content is also clearly marked as new content. i'm not going to spoil anything because this is one of those games which is far better if you go into it blind, but there is no chance of stumbling over new content without being aware that it is new content

Played it on Game Pass last month; I'd give it a qualified recommendation. it's fairly polished, very pretty, enjoyable to play, and short enough not to overstay its welcome, but it also feels like Image & Form wasn't fully confident in their ability to make a 3D game and ended up erring too far on the side of conservatism in its design. namely in that it doesn't really iterate or expand on its core jump-and-vacuum mechanics much at all; aside from a few very minor new wrinkles, what you're doing an hour in is what you'll be doing for the rest of the game.

basically, either play it on Game Pass or wait for a sale/bundle of the Steam version
