Immortal Life (a cultivator farming game) has some neat features, but I'm not sure I can recommend it. The profit per harvest is brutal. Most things cost 1-3k, and the profit per crop averages around ~15 per harvest. (I put together a spreadsheet with profit and profit per day by buying one of each crop for the first 12 game days).). All the regrowing crops actually lose you money on the first harvest. On the other hand, most quests give 300-500 spirit stones (the game's currency), so it's not too hard to get enough money, as long as you aren't actually farming...

I don't think the numbers are quite as bad as the sheet since there's nothing accounting for variance in the drops (different qualities or items like the spirit potato) but I definitely felt the money problems, I've mentioned that earlier as well. I've just been fishing for money instead but I remember trying to go from wheat -> wheat flour -> bun to improve the money from harvest. Wheat -> Wheat Flour was definitely an improvement but not by a huge amount.

How did you make Wheat Flour? I've been focused purely on crops, so haven't even built my workshop yet.

Incidentally, I don't know what most furniture items do, but the go-board looking one that's "only" 800 spirit stones adds one to the recovery of all 3 resources. Going from 2 mana per hour to 3 mana per hour made a big difference for me.

Fishing does feel like good money, but I don't really like fishing. Waiting for the bobber to go down for "real" is painful. I prefer more active fishing mini-games.

I tried out the new updated Stanley Parable for a few hours the other day and it's pretty great, but part of me was wondering why I rebought a game when "all they did" was add a few new things.

It wasn't until later that I found out it was entirely rebuilt from scratch in a new engine. The original areas felt so much like the old Source engine that I couldn't tell the difference.

I have to agree actually. When Yakuza 3 first got localized on PS3 I remember hating the Okinawan parts of the game but upon revisiting the game with the remastered edition I honestly think the orphanage and Okinawan parts of the game which really work. The actual main plot of the game is just super weird and boils down to The CIA are setting up a trap for the CIA because the CIA can't be trusted and this is the only way for the CIA to arrest the CIA and Kiryu's uncle is also CIA and the orphanage is wrapped up in the CIA trap to arrest the CIA.

There being a point in the game where you're expected to get a dramatic story reveal and it's "oh, yeah, this got taken care of successfully don't worry about it anymore" was a massive "wtf!" moment for me that I couldn't tell if I was even understanding the main plot correctly.

The Okinawan stuff actually worked well because it was a new, smaller area with it's own charm. I'm staring down the map of Kamurocho for the 5th time now and because it's not as nice as 0 or Kiwami it's getting real old real fast. The various problems they fixed for 0, which is that fights just give you money instead of items, really stand out as I have to fight 3-4 people to go from one end of the map to the other and end up with a bunch of stamina/health drinks.

Probably one of the few story beats that ever read to me as bad stupid (instead of funny and charming stupid) was the fact that Kiryu stuck around after 3. Seeing him as a burned-out taxi driver in 5 was kinda fun, but in 4-6 I always got the feeling that the writers were more interested in developing their new dudes and just shoved him in because you gotta have Kiryu in your Yakuza game.

(For my money I would've appreciated 4 as the Akiyama & Saejima show, 5 as Akiyama and Porn Basebro Show, and 6 as 0-2.)

This wouldn't be consistent with her character, but on the pure fanfiction/fan appeal side I would've loved for the idol stuff in 5 to have been more violent- poor Haruka just wants to sing the songs good, but some sleazy Z-tier yakuza goons shake down the studio she's working at (as they tend to), and try to threaten/extort the talent. She goes all Daughter of Dojima and busts some heads (Haruka never killed anyone, now please enjoy this cinematic of her stabbing and curb-stomping dudes).

Except, this all happened as the backdrop to Daigo's dumbass merger negotiation, so now it's like 'Oh poo poo, who hosed around with Kiryu's daughter? Nobody's going to sign the deal until this chaos has been settled,' and the whole game is people who actually give a poo poo moving pieces around while Haruka's just standing there going "For gently caress's sake, I just want to sing happy songs and walk ten paces without having to beat up a drunk and steal their silver plate."

This game is awesome! Its been my go-to for a good while now, not sure how much I would compare it to FTL though, it's waaaay more of a management game where you're optimizing your ship's layout for traveling to minimize resource cost, then having a "switch" for your combat situations, this switching does get kinda tedious unfortunately, but I still kinda love it, and all the different ships play great too.

Expect a massive learning curve, bullshit moments, lose way more then you win, and long rear end games (like 4-5 hours for a win).

Also! You can even cryo sleep your pet cats to stop them from eating in special "lovers-type" cryobeds and sell their dreams for credits as you go. Yup.

Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe is awesome, and I can't believe PLEASE DON'T READ THESE MASSIVE SPOILERS IF YOU PLAN TO PLAY THIS GAME I didn't figure out it was actually Stanley Parable 2 because of course it is and in retrospect it's the most obvious thing ever. What a really smart, yet simultaneously really dumb thing to do, that plays upon the player's expectations and I applaud them for it 100 percent. And I think that balance is why I loved playing the game when it first came out so the fact that it hits that in droves in the new bits they added is everything I could have wanted.

I think I may have actually broken the game (although it's Stanley Parable so always doubt yourself) on my last playthrough of Ultra Deluxe. On the way back on the lift from the phone room (nothing changed from the original game here), I decided to crouch under the warning sign and... the game didn't kill me. I was able to walk around in the loading bay, I could clip through some of the boxes and there were areas of missing geometry. The only thing I found was an open loading gate, but nothing happens when you're outside, just a swell of dramatic music with no narrator.

In hindsight I probably should've stayed put and left the game to go do something and come back, just to be sure.

Hogama

That's sort of intentional, I think. It's not an "ending" ending since you can't do anything else down there except restart from the menu, but it's kind of an easter egg thing? You could get down there in the 2013 version as well but I don't remember there being ambient music there before.

That one review is definitely red scare bullshit but it seems like most of the negative reviews are actual chinese players posting reviews only in Chinese.

Here's a snippet of one, google translated:

quote:

3. In terms of official commitments, the official studio of the game has promised from weekly updates to monthly updates. During this period, the version updates are almost not as promised and postponed. The only thing that can attract a large number of players is "creative workers." Square". But unfortunately, the official of the game played a word game, which did not refer to "steam creative workshop", but a third-party software platform called "creative workshop" that they came up with, not only from mod subscription to import extremely It is cumbersome and complicated, not as simple as the "steam creative workshop", and the platform in the official mouth needs to be strictly reviewed. The creativity of a large number of players cannot be realized, and only mods that satisfy their "one word" can be used.
The official who deceived players like this has never been seen before. Players need to keep their eyes open and keep in mind the studio behind the game to avoid being deceived again! I heard that the studio is preparing to make the second generation of the game, but before seeing the finished product, it is better to wait and see. It is the official behavior that makes players distrust.

I'd post the original Chinese but SA is currently mangling all non-latin characters for me . (e: apparently I can post copy-pasted Chinese if I log in from Chrome but not from Firefox... dunno why)

So it sounds like the CN community is also mad about the offsite mod workshop but for actual drama unrelated to that guy's red scare nonsense.

Stanley Parable: Made my BIL buy it last night, sat behind him as he played it for the first time for about ~3 hours total. When the 'new content' door opened I asked him to play the base game a bit more before going in, and when he eventually did it was like a full loving hour of stuff before dropping you back into the main game. During that time, any sort of narrative thrust that the original had was totally lost in the zany ultra-delux justification, and his first 'normal' run after that before retiring for the night was just "lol random monkeycheese" since he picked up the bucket.

Maybe after putting a few more hours into it the game's "point" will become clear again, but honestly it felt almost like a downgrade from the original.

I was in a similar position to you a while ago, and it took two different things for me to get over it.

Realizing that I wasn't "wasting gold" by buying drinks + items from the shop before a run, I was insuring that I was going to get farther and they paid for themselves.

Investing in the tax-reduction/ore-seller. This takes a while, but once you get the ore-seller to his final tier, you can bank ore to get around the gold-tax without really losing anything, and just sell ore to buy potions, fountain blessings or whatever.

Every town upgrade you get is pretty multiplicative, so even getting just a little farther to unlock something new can really skyrocket your powerlevel. You'll be slamming into boss 3, and then boss 4 in no time

If you have difficulties with some of the classes (I forget which actually do this), try to suss out the difference between holding down primary attack 100% of the time, and spacing out attacks, because you might move faster and be able to evade attacks easier. If you're only playing Mage, try one of the other classes as well. Even if you only manage to kill the first boss on a few of the other classes, the passive buffs that provides to all classes also adds up.

Thanks. The highest profit crops (not counting processing like wheat->flour) are the Soulgrass Seed you can only buy from the rare merchant who comes in the middle of each season. I haven't found a way to get rich yet, but between that and keeping Anima fruit cash crops rolling, I'm doing okay.

Finding time to dive deep enough into the mines to get superior stone is very difficult for me though. I just reached mid summer (the special 3 day segment in the middle). I've finally got the recipe for the millstone, but it takes superior stone and I've only got two pieces of it because I usually don't have time to go all the way down to the 5th or 6th floor of the mine which is the only place I've found it. The one time I made it that deep, I had to run past a bunch of fights and still was low on mana and stamina the next day because I didn't get to bed until like 3am.

A lot of the mechanics are combat focused, so it feels more like an adventure game with tacked on farming than a real farming game. Which is weird since supposedly your character is the one and only farmer in the sect (town).
