I heard what Bill Murray whispered in her ear at the end was "actually this movie is socialist"

Bill Murray was old when they made that movie and now it's 20 years later and he's still old. What gives?!

not really sure it’s thread appropriate, but we don’t have a “cringe” thread afaik/pop culture is to blame for the framing: https://twitter.com/marrowing/status/1520992833011740672?s=20&t=CwZDtUcMJE9XqXYiQSuHuQ tldr; woman gets horny over dude at networking event and blows up marriage (with 2 kids) because she’s convinced he’s her soulmate, he (naturally) says no because he only ever spoke to her the one time then she wrote a book about it m, and is now a life coach anyway click through the prose is great fun

watched CODA last night and wow it was just slightly elevated abc family movie slop, nothing interesting stylistically, feel like it would have gotten lost in the ocean of precious room temperature coming of age streaming dramedies if it weren't for apple awards push, just instantly forgettable they do start a co-op tho, so maybe mildly socialist in the wolffian sense

She has absolutely no musical training and plays no instruments and is on the "Every Good Boy Deserves Fudge" stage most musicians got through in third grade or thereabouts. Not only should she probably not be at Berklee, she also wouldn't really get that much OUT of Berklee. The teacher character, whom she trusts because he is the first person who ever really encouraged her to sing more and gave her some self-worth from it, wants her to, because it's what he did when he was her age, and she's just like "this is my foremost life goal now". Getting a formal education in singing, on a whim, is honestly some bourg poo poo. Her family needs her help. IMO instead of wasting time and money getting training she will have absolutely no use for and doesn't have the theory to digest, she should just join a bar-rock cover band while helping her family run the goddamn co-op.

the people running the entrance exam are like "so, do you have any musical training" and she's like "uhhhh" but then she sings a song really good and they're like "whoaaaa we've never heard someone sing good, you're admitted!!! good luck passing a single class here lol"

What's the value of informing some largish amount of people that children of deaf adults is a thing that exists? Is it more valuable than the prestige of Oscar legacy? I haven't seen it yet, this is an honest question. Re Lost In Translation, I haven't watched it in ~15 years but I remember it being wistful and romantic, which are things I think I still like. https://twitter.com/marrowing/status/1521016412625637376 So, correct me if I'm wrong, the difference between a therapist and a life coach is that a therapist is someone with some kind of graduate degree who wants you to be calm and happy and make good decisions, and a life coach is someone with no training that wants you to be bold and brave and reckless and stumble from dumb idea to dumb idea without a pause to rest, right e: also it's kind of weird that she apparently thought she couldn't change careers while her husband and children were still in the picture???

The whole soulmate thing is so insane. Like, I couldn't imagine being with anyone but my wife, but we both (like presumably most stable adults) recognize that's the result of supporting each other for nearly two decades and not some grand universal plan. We're together because our lived experience leading up to our first date led to us being super compatible with one another, and if we had not met or led significantly different lives we probably wouldn't be together but would still be fine. What I'm saying is I can't imagine being so unsure of your own autonomy that you'd blow up your life because you met a random hot person on the grounds of what if I chose wrong? I can only assume the marriage was a dumpster fire before that. Here's a sneak peak at the inner workings of her brain: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sXOdn6vLCuU
