My boatfuckling experience is limited to kayaks, canoes, and other things that you can just pick up by hand and put in the water, but it seems to me like before getting out the car to gently caress around with the boat, closing both the parking and emergency brakes on the car would be important, no? And wouldn't you normally have two people (one in the car, one in the boat)?

I know so many people who only ever do one brake or the other when they leave their vehicle for any reason and while being a giant nerd may have something to do with it I find that baffling. One slip up in the wrong spot and something like that happens.

There's only one brake that can be set on a car, are y'all talking about setting the parking brake and selecting "park" on the transmission?

But yeah, foot on the main brakes, set parking/e-brake, THEN put it in park or gear if it's a stick, turn vehicle off. If you have 4wd, put it in 4 and lock the hubs in before you start backing down.
