I have a fragment of a song from my teenage years that I can't place. It's from some UK-82/oi-adjacent English 80s band. I'm almost tempted to say it's by Blitz, but I don't think that's right. What's stuck in my head is the chorus's lyrical hook, "999, Emergency." As you can imagine, that's difficult to Google.

Edit:
Figured it out, it was Infa-Riot. Track was Emergency.

Edit 2:
Ah, the Infa-Riot version covered Girlschool. And I would have heard the Girlschool version much more recently than I would have listened to Infa-Riot. Goes to show. Thanks.

Gospel released their comeback album today. If that doesn’t mean anything to you, listen to The Moon Is a Dead World immediately.

A couple of tracks into this one and if it keeps up this quality it will be an AOTY contender. The first song sounds like David Yow fronting Emerson, Lake and Palmer.

Whoa wait what? Did they announce this in advance at all?

e: oh this is great, it's "The Loser" if you want to look it up on Spotify.

This whips rear end. Moon is one of my favorite albums of all time, and Loser is more than a worthy successor.

NEVER go back for any reason.
There have been a few times in the past where random other artists got added under Gospel on Spotify. Very nice surprise once the new singles started getting added and it's actually real. The Moon is a Dead World is a great album, and it definitely deserved a follow-up (almost 20 years later)

This is loving terrible. I know we already hit doing Queen but why does this sound like Aerosmith x Smashing Pumpkins? Why is the mix muddy toilet doodoo? I didn't listen to anything they did after Black Parade - is this what they sounded like at the end? If so MCR deserved death.

It’s good, if a little tame. It sounds like the post-hiatus up Conventional Weapons stuff they released, but never really goes sufficiently off rails the way they do like in 3 Cheers or Black Parade. I think Gerry still sounds great :unsmith: and Frankie is shredding with 1% of his ability here, but is clearly happy to be back in the saddle

The new one reminds me a lot of Horse the band.

I'm not blown away by the new MCR track. Love the band to pieces, but the track doesn't really go anywhere and the mix sounds really muddy.

Really hoping that if this is pre-empting a new album, it's at least polished up.

Bullets deserves more love honestly. It's not Three Cheers or Black Parade, but it's still really good imo

Bullets is, and I can see this without any hyperbole, the best possible 9/11 concept album ever produced, performed, and recorded, and the fact that it was created by a bunch of north Jersey greaseballs in their teens is goddam incredible.

3C4SR is just a flawless record that pops and pulls you in and spits you out like a chipmunk caught in a bike chain

The Black Parade: one of the seminal rock albums of my generation, but also marking the first major evolution//departure to the bands signature grimy emo/punk roots into big band rock anthem legends… and it leaves some of the crustiest punks feeling high & dry

Danger Days: the band is spiraling out of control and a bunch of men in their 30’s desperately record a science fiction punk record about nuclear fallout wherein they pretend they are still in their 20’s

Conventional Weapons is their post-touring release where they made some of their very best and most beautiful songs, kind of in the same vein of aged millennial punks as Brand New or Motion City Soundtrack, going as heavy & dark as they wanted while still writing hooks so catchy you could lose an eye.

Foundations of Decay seems like it takes the grime of Bullets & 3 Cheers with production value and musicianship of Black Parade and Weapons, so I’m really excited and intrigued by a record that explores and combines the sounds they’ve already made instead of them instead of a record pushing their 3-4th distinctive sea change in songwriting.

/A lotta words about a band no one thinks is good :unsmith:

Also if anybody's in/around NC Viagra Boys are gonna be at Cat's Cradle in October. Orange Peel in Asheville too. They're touring with Shame who idk as much abt but they seem cool im really hype
