Well, this is where I go to learn what I missed out on 1 to 2 years prior. That would explain why two years ago a band my ex was in decided to do an entire set of sea shanties. I thought there was a brief sea shanty thing that came up when Assassin's Creed IV came out, but that was like ten years ago now.

This is also because Romance languages use solfege to refer to note names in a fixed-do system, whereas in English (and a few other places like China, Japan, and Hungary) we generally use "do" to refer to the tonic, no matter the key. This gets even more confusing because while in Italian or Spanish or whatever you'd use "si" to mean B major and it would sound like "C" to an English speaker like what happened to you, even in written English "si" would refer to an augmented fifth in any key.

It's weird that there are no Finnish sea shanties, despite the fact that Finns have been selling wind and sailing the seas to foreigners for hundreds of years. Maybe its just that the Finnish sailors actually worked for their pay unlike the perfidious Anglophones who are responsible for Steam-Powered Giraffe and Markiplier.
