The worst Australian bird name is the "intermediate egret" It's bigger than the little egret, but not quite so large as the great egret, you see.

Yeah, that owl is definitely banging that toy. We had a lunatic birb (red rumped parakeet) who imprinted on a dishcloth, and, well cleaning up using any cloth at all was a surprisingly painful experience. It's a species notorious for its aggression and some fool hand tamed one. So we went from a super sweet gentle cockatiel to a psychotically violent giant budgie. Red rumped parakeets are insanely angry little guys and please do not try to be friends with them. Let them be pretty and insane in the forest.

i looked at an article about the red rear end bird and it said "it is a mild mannered creature except when it becomes horny, then it may attempt to kill you." ok, not exactly that but the gist.

Despite being 600km from the ocean, a small lake near our town is suddenly home to a couple hundred pelicans..... ...including the only pelican to be terrible at making friends.

I'm near the geographic center of the continent and there's one town here that's had a huge population of wild pelicans in the river for as long as I can remember. It's a popular angling spot near a dam so I'm guessing it's because there's lots of fish there or something.

A lot of pelicans nest pretty far inland, actually, and it's that time of year in the northern hemisphere. Some species of seagulls do the same, which is why you get gulls on the prairies all summer.

I was just out in my mom’s yard and heard a blue jay making soft calliope noises. I’ve never heard that before Fromm blue jay, but I was playing Australian magpie videos the other day. I think it might have picked up on their song. https://youtu.be/m_BjnP5EEy4 Wonder if it is the same one that does the spot-on red tail hawk impression for absolutely no reason. Usually, blue jays pull out that trick to scare other animals away from food they want. Edit: I may have meant red shoulder hawk. https://youtu.be/CcarsP4yR58 Bored has a new favorite as of 16:55 on May 17, 2022 |
