Fearless is unfortunately mid as hell, due to some strange production choices. I appreciate a groovy, vibey title track just fine, but it needs some sort of volume and structural dynamics to provide variety. The "bum ba-ba-ba-ba-bum" pre-verse/post-chorus repeating bit is catchy, especially when the harmony line comes in, but... they also used the same drat bit with the same percussion and bassline and everything as the bridge, with just a light additional vocal line on top of the 2nd half. The final chorus also lacks anything to distinguish is dynamically or structurally from the previous two. It all just feels very... flat, for lack of a better term. The pre-choruses are the only bits that do anything to break it up a little, and even those are in the same dynamic pocket. That said, b-sides slap, especially The Great Mermaid. I'm absolutely in love with the synth patch they used for the main line.

Fearless is a pretty good track (agree it could use something to give it a feeling of movement) and the choreo seems to fit well. The video, while technically not *bad*, just fails terribly. Its shot as a 'kpop debut' video, which means you're getting lots of glamour shots, variety of outfits/sets, trying to raise the energy with cuts, etc. It just doesn't work for the vibe of the song at all to me. Dang, looks like the KCON premiere streams aren't freely available? Was it different in past years? I gotta pony up $35 to get all the live content, which is fine. Worth it since it's for all 3 premiere shows I think.

Blends nicely as a fairly bright pop sound on the current musical trends. Just enough edge on the sound that I'm not annoyed, not trying to do anything super crazy jumping between sections, vocals and pronunciation all sound good.

Yeah, that hit the front page of Reddit. Also the contest itself has some major prizes, she gets to perform at the Billboard Music awards, gets a T-Mobile commercial, and gets her song promoted on all Iheartradio stations, pretty big deal. In a recent interview one of the questions was "where do you see yourself in five years" and her answer was a joking "hopefully still with income" so hopefully this will alleviate any concerns about that!
