if only someone had spent literal years telling people that putting their money into a get rich quick scheme was loving stupid but nobody did, and now all these completely innocent investors are losing everything. it's a real goddamn tragedy, and i for one will weep for every dipshit who blows his brains out over this

Turns out stapling a bunch of dogshit together doesn't make it not poo poo. A small run on it started (possibly intentionally, but it's crypto so who knows) and that snowballed into a big run. Stablecoins turned out to not be stable and that triggered more sell-offs and on and on. Bitcoin has stopped collapsing at the nearly dead-on $30k line where it has stopped in the previous several crashes. Presumably they're being bought up as fast as they're being offered using funny money. The cracks are really showing, though, and it won't take much to send things into final collapse.

Is it possible that there are bots buying bitcoin when it hits a pre-determined bargain price, thereby bringing the value back up? Is it also possible that one of these bot owners is going to run out of money or bail out one it gets up to a different pre-determined sell price?

Total speculation here (much like buying crypto!) but my belief is it's the exchanges issuing themselves a few billion in Tether and whatever and then using that to buy Bitcoin to bring the price back up so they can cash out a bit more. So theoretically they can just keep making up Monpoly money forever and buying crypto. Eventually they will run out of real cash at which point the exchange just stops and the real party begins. That's my prediction for where things will wind up in the end. I don't think they're at that point yet, but I can dream. Random Stranger fucked around with this message at 20:33 on May 11, 2022 |

I use the word "legitimate" superfluously because how legitimate is the stock exchange in the first place? But I mean it's not like a Robinhood thing where it's literally a flat-out scam where you never actually own any of the stock/crypto you purchase through them and you're essentially only purchasing the right to tell them what to do with stock that they greazeball posted:They also tried to hide it by using the name of a Rick and Morty character! There are definitely bots that do that (with any kind of investment) and it's almost guaranteed to bankrupt you (because your bots buy but the price keeps crashing until people stop selling). You'd need a massive amount of money you don't care about to manipulate the market in that way because you're going to take a massive initial loss, but that's exactly the kind of money that these gigantic chinese btc mining conglomerates or "captains of industry" like elon musk have, and I think especially in the case of the mining conglomerates all of their wealth is spread across various cryptos, so they have a vested interest in taking that initial loss in order to not firebomb their entire portfolio. deep dish peat moss fucked around with this message at 20:43 on May 11, 2022 |
