I made my imaginary food truck staple, pork belly “tostadas” for other people for the first time and it got devoured. Fried dumpling wrappers with slaw, smoked char siu pork belly, and choice of chili sauce or Hot and Spicy Bachan’s (you should all buy a bottle of Bachan’s it’s incredible)

Been dealing with my tummy being sensitive to almost anything for a week now. Granted I've been eating a lot of rich food as of late from traveling, but this mixture of heartburn / gas / sometimes nausea from eating a succulent meal sucks! Now that I'm back home, I guess I'm gonna need to eat BRAT for a bit.

as somebody going through roughly a barrel of formula a week, the fact that there's a shortage would have me lighting police precincts on fire (in the two hour breaks between feeding times we generally have). gently caress, it absolutely sucks in the worst way possible. I didn't plan on leaving the U.S. the decade the decline really starts accelerating, but I'm not super mad about the coincidence of it.

Yeah my first kid wouldn’t touch breast milk with a 10 foot pole (she’s 6 now) my second loves milk thank god but wife pumping so much really wore her down. He’s 18 months now and been weening him off cow milk bottles this last month and his sleep cycles/ getting him to nap have been rooouugh.

We got obscenely lucky with our son's feeding habits. He took to the breast immediately and was fine with the occasional bottle of formula to give my wife a break. Started experimenting with solid foods at 6 months then had him fully weened off the bottle by his first birthday. Can't even imagine the fury of somebody unable to feed their kid due to corporate malfeasance and regulatory incompetence.

A lot of the JUST BREASTFEED narrative is more control of the female body. It’s so loving difficult to pump. It’s exhausting. You can hardly work while doing it. Most employers aren’t on-board. My wife’s company was awesome and had a lactation room for her (even though it’s a tech co) but even with that it was a huge undertaking. Keeping breast milk cool. Transporting home. Taking to daycare w kiddo. It would’ve put us under huge time and financial strain if we hadn’t been able to supplement later on then wean to formula around 8mo. Not to mention the psychological toll of feeling literally like a dairy cow.

My kid had some special formula because he was low weight. We probably would’ve been fine with regular formula if we had to, but I can’t imagine the stress I’d be having right now if we couldn’t get formula.

We had a brave contractor who was using it for a meeting room and told someone who booked it to wait their turn, then got promptly fired.

Speaking of shootings, there were three separate ones last night near the Deer District towards the end of the Bucks/Celtics game. One of them injured 17 people and 10 people were apprehended from that incident alone. Nobody died in any of them though!

Oh fair warning on that article I quoted about the shooting, I thought BNOnews was a local Buffalo thing that was on the ground working. They're a kinda sketchy worldwide news aggregator that focuses on the salacious. No one else is reporting that stuff yet so take all of that part with a grain of salt. All we know for sure is that there was a mass shooting.

Has the idea of raising the age on gun ownership ever been pursued? Seems like a band-aid on a mortal wound but so many shootings, especially mass shootings, are committed by males age 15-30. It feels like raising the age to 25 might have some small positive effect.
