So from checking apparently Savior is massively holding back as by reading about him he's apparently considered one of the strongest if not strongest Servants. Apparently supplementary material and novelizations of Extra don't consider Hakuno to have had a proper battle against him as it took one look at him for it to be clear he could not be beaten, and instead of fighting him directly they just targeted Twice.

Well he did reach enlightenment, which technically makes him invincible since his revelation is beyond EX and at a literal unquantifiable level. He's also, sorta one with the universe so I assume all his stats are just ??+++ at infinitium. I mean Gil can potentially blow up a planet, but even he can't destroy the universe.

Hello, future LP! I'm posting from the past, as I'm back on page 11 and just about to go into the Alice finale. I just wanted to say to the future: wow! I love this LP! It's such a great presentation of a game, and you're sparing me the awful, awful gameplay. I remember playing this game as a teenager while on a roadtrip to Oklahoma from NY - my family would go on the yearly drive to see my grandparents, and the year before I had been in the middle of reading Fate/stay night for the first time. Sitting in my grandparent's place getting into the Heaven's Feel route had been a ride, and I'd been hoping Fate/Extra would be as fun. ...it wasn't.

It's fate. Somewhere out there is something that could attempt to destroy the universe. They just haven't written yet. At least they have to my knowledge. Having seen a route of this game completed again makes me want to go find out what happened with the translation playthrough of CCC someone was doing years ago. Or just listening to the ost because it really does have some of the best songs in the franchise

Direct weaknesses such as cheese Vs Medb are rarely actually used, but that's because any servant not on watch against those gets owned, everyone knows it, so everyone is on guard. For another example, Achilles's heel is not that weak a point. It's not an instant kill*, it's just the only point where one can wound him and he knows it, so he'll actively protect it. *Unless Paris is involved but we're back to really specific weaknesses.

Um, Achilles' heel is 100% a massive weak point, if he ever gets hit on it he loses his speed and invincibility NPs, and according to Apocrypha he dies soons after. Basically weaknesses in Fate depend on multiple factors: some like Medb and Achilles are instant-kills/massively crippling because they are so famous, if you use Hydra poison on Heracles he just dies, God Hand be damnned, and I guess using Mercury on Qin Shin Huang is also a sure way to get rid of him. It's the entire reason why Servants (used to) hide their True Names, a good bunch of them have weaknesses they don't want to risk (like, Hydra poison still exists in modern day Nasu. Things like Dragonslaying weapons are probably less common, though).

I doubt we will see CCC come back in an official capacity. I think it was even stated it wasn't a game they could make again but I don't fully remember the details of the interview. There is the sort of remake of extra being developed though so there's some hope for this branch of the series seeing more come out. Although not sure if the new game has any global release planned currently.

Just finished and caught up and aahhh! Wow, BisbyWorl, your extra information and commentary made this game shine! The revelation about Tamamo - I would've bought that story and ignored the hints. You pointing it out made me way more interested. Basically whatever you LP next after this, I'm reading it because you're an excellent LPer. But first - NG+! Bonus questions for the Fate fans in here: - Despite the gameplay in Fate/Extella being really repetitive, I've got an itch to replay/resume playing it, to see out the story. Especially now that I now care about Tamamo and know what's up about the moon cell. Should I do that, or wait for the (hopeful) CCC LP first? - Fate/GO and I are getting along, especially since it gave me Altera in the free SSR-rank ticket event this month, so I'm plowing through story. I'm currently hanging out with Drake (and holy CHRIST her chest in GO) - is there a list anywhere of who wrote what? When does Nasu turn up? I'm enjoying the plot so far, but it's not wow-ing me yet. Well, the opening was great. (Olga  )And finally... all of this led to me reinstalling Fate/stay night. It's been almost a decade since I last read it, and I think I could enjoy a reread. Fate, and Nasu by extension, is one hell of a weird, flawed franchise but drat if it ain't interesting.

Higashide (Apocrypha) wrote the 1st, 3rd, 5th singularities and Sakurai (Prototype prequel) the 2nd and 4th. Afterwards they stopped saying who wrote each chapter because of author bashing but you can see the hints here and there. That said something to point out is Nasu actually writes some parts of chapters from other authors, mainly whenever there's Big Lore Incoming.

Rome also had pretty bad reception because it does kinda shill Saber a bit too much. It was period where it was a common complaint amongst all Fate/ works, which is why I'm excited to see them in their original form in Extra. We do have confirmations on certain chapters: Urobuchi was chosen as a guest writer for the third Lostbelt chapter and the sixth Lostbelt is all Nasu. All 500 A4 pages of it  (If it weren't for From Soft games Nasu would have consumed themselves in writing a long time ago)

Also just to make it a bit clear CCC kind of stands on its own compared to extra and extella. It's more of an alternate story to the events of extra and goes completely different places. Extella (and link) if I remember correctly are built on a somewhat altered version of the extra storyline. Or in short CCC is basically an isolated timeline to the rest of the extra games

Extella is built on a sort of a weird timeline where Hakuno picks Umu then picks up Tamamo - somehow - from another fight (around the 4th fight, I believe?) They then proceed, and then just before Twice ???? happens and Tamamo exists stage left. However, CCC still has happened, but almost everyone (Goldie is an exception) has forgotten its events - Dragon Idol is from post-CCC.

Fate/Extra thoughts: - The prologue was very good, if long. It set up a real mystery and made you go "whoa" as you actually died. I actually kind of miss that atmosphere from the game proper. In a different universe, a lot of money was given to this game and instead of rock-paper-scissors we got a real social deduction/investigation game ala Ace Attorney, where you're not told your opponent at the beginning of the week - you have to investigate and find clues on everyone and anyone as best you can, so you can improve your odds of survival. Take out access to the arena until it's time to fight. - I really like the aspect of needing to look up who the servants are. I wish there had been more of this, as figuring that out is neat - and I mean, I enjoy doing this in Fate/GO as well, because...  If you don't know who this is, I want you to seriously look at this image and try to figure out who this is. She's from Fate/Grand Order, in the third singularity. Have you figured it out yet? It's Boudica. Yeah, that one.  The good news is that this doesn't matter, she reveals herself instantly. The bad news is that the story proceeds to do almost nothing with her.So yeah, Fate/Extra actually going into the effort of showing off the servants and making it fun to figure out who they are - I appreciate that! I know why Fate/GO can't always do that, but it was a cool part of Stay Night, and is cool here. - I wish there had been more tension with the NPC masters. Had them be more than sad fluff between the real fight. The girlfriend/boyfriend duo that signed up were a beautiful little tragedy. - I wish - I wish there hadn't been the Rani/Rin route split. They put no effort into it for no real payoff. And if we're breaking the rules by letting you witness the fight, then why not break the rules whenever you have to fight one of them - I don't know how, plot bullshit, but instead of duelling break the system so one of 'em can survive. idk. I like them both so I wish there had been a Both option, too. - Getting worldbuilding tips about what the Harways have done here and there was excellent, and I wish to know more. Or: augh, this game does a lot right, and it's gorgeous, and I wish it were more fun to play.

I mean, the problem with the RSP aspects of the battle engine were how limited they made combat expressions. Berserker was the last boss that really had any new tricks to deal with and that's mostly because Tamamo was always just one good hit from being bloody confetti against her. It really showed by Li and especially Cu how hard they were struggling to make an interesting fight that did something different in a way that you didn't just ignore by throwing paper on their rock, just making throwing rock or scissors there more punishing. And they blatantly were done even trying with Gawain and Savior.

Bonus Update: Fate/the Fact Back before Fate/Extra released in Japan, it had a preorder bonus of a booklet, called Fate/the Fact, that gives some info on Extra's world. Since I need time to build up a backlog anyways, I might as well cover it here. The translation for this comes from this old Beast's Lair post. ~~~ ARTIFACT ON THE MOON - The Hidden Truth, the Man-made Artifact Found on the Moon By Keith Blackmore The Lunar Exploration Program that was progressing in secrecy After the establishment of NERO[1], the 45 countries that joined the organization all forsook their space and lunar development programs in one coordinated action a long time ago. However, the intel-gathering team of the Resistance “Hack&Crack”, which placed their headquarters at the Republic of Bangladesh and were mainly active in the Middle East, discovered a group that based itself in the lunar resource exploration headquarters of Akalabeth, which was abandoned by humans in the 2010s, and is continuing lunar exploration. Since large scale data jamming occurred when this gathered intel was being released, its contents are not completely clear. However, a shocking piece of information was revealed in the fragmented contents. That is – the lunar surface exploration being carried out at Akalabeth is highly likely to be related to the Western European Conglomerate. Soon after this revelation, the Hack&Crack’s headquarters were discovered by the Indo-American ally force and destroyed with large scale aerial bombing[2]. When this is taken into account, the possibility that ‘the Western European Conglomerate has obtained and has solely kept some designated-to-be-sealed space exploration technology’ can be regarded as exceedingly strong. Since the forbiddance of new satellite launching in 2015, all artificial satellites in orbit can only act through the Western European Conglomerate’s assessment system[3]. Therefore, it is impossible to physically survey the lunar surface. This current event can be said as the solo act of the Western European Conglomerate, which regarded sealing up technologies as correct and as a contribution to world peace. With gratitude to Hack&Crack’s release of information, the anti-NERO alliance – comprised of the 68 countries that oppose NERO – produced an accusing declaration. This, however, was ignored by the NERO countries. The myth of Cyber Ghosts that created a ruckus with the alternative web surfers. Something that we can catch glimpses of in the virtual sea called the Internet. Are Cyber Ghosts just an urban legend? Huh, I never knew this booklet existed. Thanks for sharing! Some fun details from it are that the Moon Cell is as old as the planet and, by extension, Albion the Grand Dragon, homunculus being more known globally (at least that's my interpretation of the final article, given Atlas has a history of creating them and they could be confused with clones) and the fact that even in Nasu land Brexit happened given they're not directly under the Harway family (On restrospect Dan being a direct agent from England should have made that much clearer).
