Is this like movie roulette and we have no idea what movie we’re getting? I have no idea how movies anywhere works, but that would be a fun idea for a thread.

I redeemed a code and it was Spider-Man No Way Home. Neat! Thanks. After years of "I should," I finally ebayed the Unrated 2-disc Walk Hard Bluray. The unrated cut is vastly superior, IMO. The theatrical version moves way too fast for what kind of movie that is. For whatever reason they don't have it available streaming anywhere, so I'm future-proofed. Physical media stays winning.

Gripweed posted:Here are some Moviesanywhere codes for anyone who wants them. Some are old and I bought some of these blurays used so the codes might not be good anymore Wow! I successfully redeemed these 10 titles: Black Widow Us The Suicide Squad Marvel Eternals Parasite Heat Psycho 1917 Once Upon a Time in... Hollywood Monster Hunter Of those, I am quite looking forward to Us, The Suicide Squad, Heat, and 1917. Us, I had in my cart a few years ago when it came out at BB, but I returned it to the shelf when I realized I would likely watch it once (see also: My copy of Get Out, gathering dust.) I figured I would enjoy it but also that it wouldn't be for repeat viewing. Similar deal with 1917, really wanted to check it out but not convinced I would want to re-watch. Heat I saw many many years ago when it hit VHS and have wanted to revisit it as an adult, and while I own the disappointing Suicide Squad, I couldn't make myself buy The Suicide Squad because meh, but now I get to watch Pete Davidson on a screen, which is more than I've seen on SNL for the past several months The Marvel films are whatever but hey! Along with the film, I added a few hundred more points to my exhausted DMI coffers, so yay! I already own Psycho, Parasite, and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, though the latter two I'd let my friend redeem the codes so I guess cool now I have them digitally as well. Psycho is the only one I truly feel bad about, my friend redeemed my Alfred Hitchcock Collection code and she would have liked to get Psycho as well, had I known what it was, but alas, them's the breaks. I don't care at all about Monster Hunter. That's movie roulette for ya With that I can confirm that every code* has been redeemed by someone or another. Thank you for a fun way to kill an hour on a Saturday *Except possibly the one starting 7YVE, right side, sixth down, which MA says is invalid? I couldn't get it to work on Paramount, Lionsgate, or MovieSpree (lol). Who knows?? Edit: TheScott2K posted:I redeemed a code and it was Spider-Man No Way Home. Neat! Thanks. The Unbearably long, Self-Indulgent Director's Cut, and yes it is by far the superior version. I too should upgrade my DVD. pwn fucked around with this message at 22:21 on May 14, 2022 |

Like, goddamn dude, shut the gently caress up for a minute, jesus christ. It's one thing if the joke were funny to begin with, but it loving sucked, and then they made sure they ran it so deep into the ground, it was hitting the earth's core. And then this happens while I'm driving 3+ hours on rural roads in a fairly hilly area at the end of a school term, and it honestly really got to me.

I still don't know how movies like Bohemian Rhapsody happened after Walk Hard since it perfected the music Biopic. It's like seeing Zero Hour (or an Airport) being made released after Airplane! I'd still contend a mini-series or movie about the making of Rumours would be amazing though.

Yeah, career biopics are played out. At least an album biopic could be a bit more focused. That whole genre has been a dumpster fire for years and I can't believe Bohemian Rhapsody was nominated for Best Picture. It was such an ugly, soulless looking thing and this was pre-COVID!

Walk Hard rules for sure. Saw that and Sweeney Todd in the same day at the theater, always fun when that kind of thing happened. Punisher and Kill Bill Vol 2, and also Scott Pilgrim and the Expendables are another couple occasions where just had to see both flicks that day.

Love those Korean flicks etc as well, it's just usually at a smaller theater, less likely to get two hyped releases on one day. Just funnily enough those particular movies were some times my friends were up for two new releases on one day. Haven't been to the theater in a couple years. But some friends have cool outdoor projector setups going on. Heavy Metal fucked around with this message at 23:32 on May 15, 2022 |

It's didn't really "perfect" so much as "distill and brilliantly mock". It was every music biopic ever made, or that would ever be made. But you are right that everybody who had the notion of making another movie about a musical artist or band should've been embarrassed to even try after Walk Hard. It's not that every musician has the same story, it's that every movie made about them tells the same story, with the same structure, no matter who the musician is or what their story was. Can't wait for the Weird Al movie to be identical to every other music biopic and hit all the same beats.

Oh yeah, the trailer hints at some silly over the top parody moments. The one that sticks out to me is a shirtless, ripped Weird Al drinking from a bottle on stage. You know that never happened, but it’s such a cliche for those types of films. If you want to see a pretty good music biopic, watch Rocketman. It’s a hard R that doesn’t shy away from the dark parts of Elton John’s life, it has a few twists on the formula, and it’s also a decent jukebox musical.

Can't beat UHF. I still think of Kevin McCarthy as the UHF villain, even though I love Invasion of the Body Snatchers. He is insanely funny in UHF. We need more villains like that in cinema today.

A lot of these films become hagiographies at some point - this genius overcame a problem and never strayed from the path. And Elton is in interviews being like "yeah, I was doing drugs and getting into doomed marriages and yelling at everyone." Even though between 1970 and 1997 there were only two years where he didn't have a top 40 single, and one of those was because he didn't release a single, he still had a come back in 1983 with I'm Still Standing. That's how far he has strayed.

I wouldn't even know where to start on how you'd do a sequel to UHF, considering that UHF stations went away with the digital conversion of television.

Thinking about it, the only sequel that would make sense for UHF is having George Newman turned into an ersatz Ted Turner, and then the plot being an global multimedia company trying to takeover his company and gut it. I thought that, then found out that the film's rights (and thus any sequel) are PROBABLY held by Amazon via MGM.
