Why's it a bad trope though? It was one of the most fun scenes in the movie.

Bringing in hugely surprising massive cameos that fans desperately want and then murdering them brutally is a great trope that doesn't happen often enough.

It's why the opening to Scream is such a good scene and still remembered to this day instead of just being another slasher kill.

Because it's a lame solution to the conundrum of "how do we show this villain is super strong without having anyone actually important die". It's the same reason it would be extremely lame if wanda (or anyone else for that matter) died but got replaced by a more of less exact copy from an alternate universe. If you're a writer and you want to kill a character, do it properly or not at all.

Yeah, it's the kinda thing that makes a multiverse interesting, and all the funnier given the meta-casting jokes and implicit context. Can be overused, sure, but it's all in the execution, no pun intended, and boy was that some entertaining execution. (Pun kinda intended)

All I could think of near the end was that episode of Star Trek voyager where Harry Kim, a main cast member fuckin dies out of nowhere in the first two minutes, and then they just replace him with a convenient quantum clone later on and never mention it again lol

But Vemon or Worf wasn't there for Wanda to beat up. How will anyone know she's serious business

Wanda has literally murdered an entire Hogwarts full of children at this point in the movie, the cameos are there for the fans, not to prove that she is powerful and evil.

Who were those alternate universe guys anyway? Are they some deep comic reference? I assumed they were in the xmen animated cartoon universe when professor x shows up in his hover chair and they play his cartoon theme. Also the world is colourful like a cartoon.

Didnt Dr Strange go visit her and litteraly tell her everything. Kind of a dumb plan for scarlet witch to go full frontal assault when she could have just said "sure I'll help you out". Then grab America when everyone is asleep

Oh yeah. Then I have to assume she found out by casting Contact Other Plane, a simple 5th level magic user spell. She casts Astral Projection later, a 9th level spell so she is clearly powerful enough.

She needed America for Plane Shift, which as an Evocation Specialist, she didn't have on her list.

It was a fantastic punchline though.

If I'm cutting anything from this movie it's that creepy loving ice cream song. Wanda's kids weren't great in general but that was just horrible.

Per Moderator OldSenileGuy it's been a good five pages of discussion (and, y'know, over a week since it got released) and I'm getting tired of turning almost every post in this thread into a redacted document from the CIA. Go see the movie or prepare to get spoiled.

Figure even when she isn't going full child-murder hobo Wanda's a bit of a weird person so her kids will kind of be a little weird too. Besides, it's a dumb, made-up song about getting ice cream by a couple of non-musician 12ish year olds. It's suppose to suck at least a little. Even if you think it's good for their age, it's not you'll submit your kids' finger-painting macaroni art to the assessment of a professional art critic.

Black Bolt is from the Inhumans, who are basically mutants but different. There was an Inhumans TV show with the same actor.

Do not watch it unless you enjoy watching hilariously bad things. It was so bad that Marvel studios would later not allow Eternals to be filmed in Hawaii.

You know what I remembered...the time that Odin's brother, the Serpent sent his weapons to his worthy and the Juggernaut became even more unstoppable and possessed and a rage freak and nothing could stop him so, like Colossus and Ilyana went to the dimension of Cyttorak and were like "Dude, your herald got possessed by some other God. That's whack." and Cyttorak was like "Da faque? THIS INSULTS ME." and gave Colossus the power of the Juggernaut and those two had an epic fight. And during this whole thing the X-Men and heroes tried all kinds of experiments to try to stop the possessed Juggernaut, like Gambit charging up his team member who was a bunch of rocks to run into the Juggernaut and explode and Adam X the X-treme setting his blood on fire but it just turned him into a flaming rage Juggernaut.

My point is, we should see some dark Gods and poo poo in the MCU.

So a loose end that feels like it deliberately wasn't addressed: did alt-wanda have her full power set? At first it looked like we were in an alternate universe where she'd never been enhanced, but when alt-wanda was depossessed and abandoned in the void she did the glowing hands thing and flew back to the door quite comfortably. And then in the final confrontation as far as I can tell she didn't use her powers there at all?

So did she pick up scarlet witch powers, or was that alternate Wanda fully powered all along but relying on talk rather than punch when her evil alternate self shows up?

Man, I'm glad I watched What If before I saw this because the first Doctor Strange movie did not do anywhere near the amount of emotional heavy lifting to make me care about Christine or convince me Strange cares that much about her. But that one episode of What If did, so, it's fine. :toot:

Also figure either there was no Tony Stark or he died earlier and maybe Reed was the one who helped create Vision. Though Sue was probably the who told Reed to make sure Vision could not only gently caress but also impregnate women.

Exploration is ill-advised.
It's literally a universe where red means go and green means stop, pretty sure it's meant to be anything-goes and not planned to be revisited. The casting is a bunch of fun meta references. They may or may not follow up on that, who knows, though Patrick Stewart's probably getting too old for more than cameos.
