Dogs are cool and all but people having dogs/cats whatever is absolutely no indication of their character. Every demon cracker president of the US basically had dogs/cats and look at how much war crime they happily did. also animals as pets is insanely not climate neutral. Both dogs and cats need protein in the form of meat which is extremely taxing on the environment. Spay and neuter your pets and dont buy from breeders.

I feel like you are putting me in the category of the credulous who listened to him in the 90s or something?? Such a weird, personal dig, Pryor on Fire. Why poo poo on people like you do? Is this trolling? Are personal attacks OK for you? I know right, leaping to a conclusion? On the Internet? edit: okay dude enough with the credulous naif gimmick. you should next ready yourself for the idea that car ownership isn't carbon neutral

Pet ownership just seems so... benign. But you're totally right, and it's something I haven't taken a lot of time to think about. All the poo poo we buy specifically because we own household pets combined with everything it takes to generate and process those materials must be hugely taxing on the environment. Is pet ownership as big a deal in places outside the U.S. as it is here? e: lol if you think me asking questions about things is a gimmick you should see all the dumb questions I asked in the Ukraine Russia thread because I truly did not understand how artillery works NeatHeteroDude has issued a correction as of 05:06 on May 16, 2022 |

My bad for typing "carbon" instead I guess? Without even going into the unsaid assumption you thought they were somehow more likely to be climate negative (otherwise how would neutral be the worst case) - how would they be climate neutral? Did you think their food materialized out of the ether? You traveled to a store to purchase it, after it was trucked to the store, after it was packaged, after it was transformed from a living being into kibble, after that living being consumed a bunch of feed itself in a facility that raised it. Every bit of this process took oil. Display some basic thought into the ocean of waste that goes into any aspect your life and maybe I'll display less contempt for your safari into this thread.

I meant more along the lines of "I don't really think about this thing, but my perspective is that it's so small compared to other things like oil and gas production that it makes very little difference in the grand scheme of things." Also, the idea that I mostly post somewhere else (in the glennthread) really pisses you off. I'm not sure why, but it does. You not thinking is obvious. What do you believe that oil and gas production you think of as making actual climate difference is used for? "oil and gas" isn't some boogeyman industry you flip a switch and shut down to solve the problem, it's every single aspect of your modern convenience-fueled life. You posting elsewhere doesn't piss me off, it's your kramering in with braindead takes like pets are climate neutral instead of bothering to consume any information on the subject yourself, or display any critical thinking about how stupid it could be. There are loving threads of information on this subject were discussing here. Go read them, or a book like you've been recommended, or a podcast, or whatever. Just don't be incredulous at getting snippy responses when posting before thinking.

I figure supply chain stuff for online folks like us gives us a little bit of a warning, but at the same time, while it's probably a few years off before things get really fun, there's no telling how long. I am curious about long term tea/coffee storing. Green beans in zip locks in the freezer? Instant coffee in the freezer? What about tea? I'm curious. You might be able to grow green tea. Georgia (the country) actually produces green tea, for instance. It's not as particular as coffee.

when I drink coffee I'm intensely aware that it's not a thing likely to exist for the rest of my life except maybe as an extreme luxury item, unless I get killed a lot sooner than I am expecting to. Short of some kind of insane deep-deep freeze setup with a dedicated power supply there's no real way to keep decent coffee good for very long, so I've just accepted that it will probably go away at some point and also when it does I'll probably have much more worrisome things to be concerned with.' If you need uppers, stockpile amphetamine; phenethylamines will last for generations.
