no man those tins of cat and dog food? those are totally neutral. Raising animals for meat to be slaughtered for another animal to eat is climate neutral.

that's true about people owning dogs and cats. glenn is a petty rear end in a top hat and he owns plenty of dogs. all the nicest people I know own cats though, so maybe it's just dog people.

Pet ownership just seems so... benign. But you're totally right, and it's something I haven't taken a lot of time to think about. All the poo poo we buy specifically because we own household pets combined with everything it takes to generate and process those materials must be hugely taxing on the environment. Is pet ownership as big a deal in places outside the U.S. as it is here?

No I didn't misread your post, you explicitly said you thought pets were climate neutral at worst. My bad for typing "carbon" instead I guess? Without even going into the unsaid assumption you thought they were somehow more likely to be climate negative (otherwise how would neutral be the worst case) - how would they be climate neutral? Did you think their food materialized out of the ether? You traveled to a store to purchase it, after it was trucked to the store, after it was packaged, after it was transformed from a living being into kibble, after that living being consumed a bunch of feed itself in a facility that raised it. Every bit of this process took oil.

Display some basic thought into the ocean of waste that goes into any aspect your life and maybe I'll display less contempt for your safari into this thread.

You're right, and I absolutely could have phrased my statement better. I meant more along the lines of "I don't really think about this thing, but my perspective is that it's so small compared to other things like oil and gas production that it makes very little difference in the grand scheme of things."

Also, the idea that I mostly post somewhere else (in the glennthread) really pisses you off. I'm not sure why, but it does. Do you think we're all laughing about everything you post on a secret discord?

You not thinking is obvious. What do you believe that oil and gas production you think of as making actual climate difference is used for? "oil and gas" isn't some boogeyman industry you flip a switch and shut down to solve the problem, it's every single aspect of your modern convenience-fueled life.

You posting elsewhere doesn't piss me off, it's your kramering in with braindead takes like pets are climate neutral instead of bothering to consume any information on the subject yourself, or display any critical thinking about how stupid it could be. Ignore the weirdos, there's a lot of weirdo goons (myself included). Probably one of the best 1 sentence summary of the issue is our economic mode of production and ecological systems are at odds with each other, contradictory, and can't be resolved; everything else is sub-headings with knock-on compounding and exponential multipliers to that.

And then we can talk a lot of about the sub-headings to that; however, compounding multipliers are so large now even just going nordic-socialism isn't a panacea and much is far too late.

it's great at sliding! pretty bad at getting out of the slide, though.

having all the weight at the bottom is good for stability except it's a lot of mass -- it's really good at cross country if you slap some offroad tires on it but if you aren't really careful with your turns you will just keep sliding outside of the checkpoints

I plan on taking very good care of my Legos so they don't shed microplastics onto me and so I have a fun pile of toys to enjoy indefinitely (thinking about it, indefinitely is the measurement i'll stick to)

edit: fr though lego is pretty melancholy these days since all i want to build is dioramas of a different world. here is a korean convenience store and pojangmacha i built last year. they are going to become part of a bigger diorama with the little riverwalk in front, but i'm dragging my feet since the store is already nicely situated on a baseplate

You might be able to grow green tea. Georgia (the country) actually produces green tea, for instance. It's not as particular as coffee.
