the republican primary to run against her got a total of 974 votes, no idea the specifics of this coming race since it was literally just redistricted but it's pretty normal for democrats to win state house districts when they live in cities

A couple decades ago, West Virginia was solid blue fwiw. From a quick glance that district still has had a dem win in the past decade, and while she got less than the R guy (in a primary, granted), more people did vote in the dem primary overall than for the uncontested R candidate.

The current officeholder for District 26 is a Democrat. The district is highly competitive, with the 2020 race being 50.6-49.4

The state was blue as late as 2013 when I moved here, but it was like it's own little WV democrat thing that was pro union (most mines now are no longer contracted with the UMWA), pro gun, pro life. Basically from what I understand the unions were a Big loving Deal here, but not anymore. But culturally, at least in southern WV, this is the bible belt. You could make other arguments about the eastern panhandle being more of a DC suburb, and everywhere from Huntington up to Wheeling being the rust belt. It's a weird state! There may be some confusion over Sydnee's district because they changed some numbers around and the redistricting goes into effect in December. But it's a pretty tiny / metropolitan district so we'll see I guess. People here are not at all happy with the economy / gas prices especially so I definitely think she'll have an uphill battle.

Granted it varies widely district to district, but state gov elections tend to not get as dirty as national ones. Less attention on them, less money, etc. etc. Lots of candidates hardly even mention positions or party on their webpages, tho I'm sure that's changing as districts get less copmetitive.

I appreciate Griffin's wistfulness in the MaxFun TTAZZ about the fact that he'd kind of wanted to avoid a "these three unlikely heroes will save the world" tale of grand heroism. I wonder if he's starting to feel the pressure to apply plot armor.

The latest season of Dimension 20 hit a really good sweet spot with that. It's a grand space adventure, and is 80% them just loving around, such as spending wayyy to much money on a casino in their space ship. There is a thread that has them effectively 'save the universe', but it's intentionally only one part of many other threads that are all treated as if not more important.

I'd bailed out about halfway through. enjoying it much more this time, especially since I know when it ends. also, I keep listening to the melodramatic flashbacks at 2x. I recommend this for every arc.

I would honestly love to see a TAZ with a relatively mundane, almost magical realism-scale, goal and plot. Like instead of saving a multiverse, or one universe from another universe, or saving anything at all, like it’d be cool to see a heist plot, or a racing/sports plot, etc.
