My understanding is he would have been drafted year before last but he blew out his elbow and had to get TJ. He did that then transferred to us.

So yeah he’s doing this on an arm that’s already had TJ surgery which is even more crazy

Arizona cracks the Top 25 on the back of Collegiate Baseball having them #7 and no one else ranking them. Wild. Anywho, half of the Top 10 slipped, with former #3, 4, 6, 8, and 10 all dropping, with Texas going from #10 to #24 representing the biggest slip this week. Other biggest drop this week was TCU from 14 to NR (#26), losing 12 spots. On the other side of the coin, Texas A&M had the biggest rise, up 12 spots. Lot of moving and shaking in Texas.

#1 Tennessee faced their biggest test this season but came out the victor, continuing on their barely blemished record. Seriously, it doesnt matter how good you are at baseball, a 91% win percentage is insane. Oregon State is practically a consensus #2 (only divergent opinion is Collegiate Baseball, which has them at #3 behind Arkansas lol). The top tier of the rankings is starting to separate from the pack in a clear manner: Tennessee, Oregon State, Oklahoma State, and Arkansas are all, at worst, ranked #5 across the polls. We will see how long this can last.

Not a lot of Top 25 v Top 25 matchups this week, so this is just a list of the top 5 and what they are doing.

Top matchups this week
#1 Tennessee @ Kentucky
Oregon @ #2 Oregon State
Southeast Missouri State @ #3 Oklahoma State
#4 Arkansas @ #20 Auburn
Villanova @ #5 Virginia Tech

Think this is resuming with one on, no outs. Tennessee has five outs to avoid dropping their first series of the season. A big series win like this for Kentucky could be the thing to start a late run for an at large bid. With how late it is in the season something like this will stick in peoples minds.

I was traveling this weekend and not really able to pay any attention to the games but looks like the bats didn't wake up until game 3. First series loss but still only 6 games lost on the season, so I don't see any reason that we would drop out of the #1 spot. It was gonna happen sooner or later and I'd rather it happen now than say in Omaha.

e: D1Baseball still has us at 1 but Baseball America dropped us to #2 after OSU swept a good Oregon team.

To your point about losing now or later, iirc only two teams have won every SEC series they had in a season (2013 Vandy, 2021 Arkansas), and neither of those two teams made it out of their Super Regional, so losing a series always feels bad but there is something to be said about giving you something to have to really rebound from

Yeah as fun as all the winning like they have is it’s baseball and it’s not really sustainable and the Vols haven’t really been challenged yet. The best thing for them would be to just get punched in the mouth by a team to put some pressure on them. There’s still a series with UGA and Miss St to go before the end of the regular season so it could still happen. Even if it does I hope they keep their swagger though. I’ve had people who I though didn’t even know college baseball existed ask me about Tennessee baseball because of how much attention they’re getting. Flip bats, celebrate, chest bump umps, wear the daddy hat and fur coat all drat day.

There was some guy on local Knoxville radio saying losing 2/3 to Kentucky was worse than anything Pruitt did and buddy I tell you what. We’re not in the “best team ever” conversation anymore and not the unanimous #1 but this is still a hell of a good team so maybe shut up and enjoy the ride.

Tennessee spent exactly one week as "not unanimous", they are back to unanimous #1. A&M Shot up this week, finally getting a bunch of credit for their good wins, and Oklahoma State was the biggest slider after being swept at home by Texas Tech. Oregon State and Virginia Tech are more or less unanimous at 2 and 3, with Perfect Game the only one to disagree and they just have them flipped. It's a top 3 world and we are just living in it.

Everything else was just kind of small movements best I can tell.

Texas A&M and Arkansas are both racing to win the SEC west. A&M just has to match Arkansas results to finish in the top spot, while Arkansas now has to win the final two and hope A&M drops one.

MEAC will be the first conference tournament to finish up tomorrow, Saturday May 21st. The Patriot and the Ivy finish up on Sunday, and then everyone else is next week. Ready to watch the fun in Hoover :toot:

Despite the fall off in SEC play, our hitting has actually matched or exceeded last year’s squad. Wayyyy more HRs too. Just been abysmal pitching.

Because there’s a tournament? I think it’s basically for scheduling and symmetry w other sports. Maybe travel plays into that but Mizzou is in the East so I can’t imagine that being the biggest factor.

So the TTU season ended with a series loss to OU. They really had our team's number this year.

The way things are shaking out, it looks like the Big XII will get 6 of their 9 baseball teams into the postseason tournament, and yet may only have 2 regional hosts and no top 8 seeds. Rough conference beating each other up something fierce.

Some teams are gonna feel real bad about the #2 and #3 seeds they get in their region.
