It's kind of weak writing that Ruby had to be told by the deus ex machina child that Goro was murdered and that there was an accomplice, when Aqua was given a way to figure it out on his own.

Yeah, unfortunately it's a consequence of not giving her a whole lot of agency or depth until now. She's been serving as a vehicle to help explore fame/idol culture (including how lovely/exploitative it can be), but as a character she really hasn't been given a lot of depth up until this moment. Like, Aqua at this point has pretty much driven all of the romantic and dramatic plot beats, but meanwhile Ruby just hasn't even really had any sort of personal life outside of trying to revive B-Komachi. So while this does feel completely artificial, at least it seems to be an authorial acknowledgement of the prior status quo and hopefully a spur to make her much more of a co-equal to Aqua in the underlying drama.

Also "oh we haven't seen each other in so long, I want to meet up with you, I'm only 20 days from retirement" Like she knows that Aqua is looking past, quite honestly the most obvious option, about the story of what really happened with Himekawa and and his cheating dad and (obviously cheating too) mother. She is probably the most informed character in the series about everything, and she didn't reveal that loophole situation to Aqua. That is not a good position to be in in a series like this. For the latest chapter, the part with the nerds discussing why some of the members of B-Komachi look troubled is both hilarious and depressing. They can only parse things in terms of idol culture that they can't even understand that Ai and Kana are just humans and may have something else weighing on their minds.Nebrilos posted:Sorry, what are Akane's death flags? She wouldn't say something like that if she actually believed that "Akane was murdered (stabbed?) because she was a genius". Or if she did say it, her reaction would horror at her own words, not embarrassment.

A good ending point would probably be depending on the episode count would be the love now arc, or depending on the pacing end it on the first performance of Mem, Kana and Ruby as B-Komachi at JIF. With the stinger being Akane setting up the manga adaptation arc.
