I will not shut up about the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. I talk about them all the time and work them into every conversation I have. I built a shrine in my room for the yellow one who died because sadly no one noticed because she died around 9/11. Wanna see it?

Almost got into a head on crash going 60 earlier today because someone couldn't wait 5 seconds to get over the top of a hill before they started passing a wide load truck and two other cars behind it. Love cars, great mode of transportation, super safe

Dude was taking up half of my lane when we went past each other. I was just lucky that the shoulder was super wide on the road and that I had already moved over a bunch before I saw him because of the wide load truck.

Love it when people do stupid poo poo because they want to save 5 seconds

Oh, and Jones was there too.

Pulled my old trash amazon bike out the shed yesterday and left it outside for scrap. That thing cost less than £80 brand new and put me off cycling for a good decade because the seat post wouldn't stay up and pedaling was hard.

Also it weighed an absolute ton.

I also bought a Specialised Crosstrail off ebay for my cousin's 18th birthday, and we spent a couple of hours cleaning it up and getting it all nice, hopefully they'll like it! :unsmith:

Oh no it was complete garbage, like utter trash even when new. You think it had anything as fancy as that? It had one screw there which was probably rusty from the start. I found the amazon listing for it the other day when looking for something else and all the reviews were "do not buy this"

in the near future there are probably going to be double black diamond mountain bike trails littered with those stupid robots because they show up as a bike path on google maps

gently caress those delivery robots, seriously. They're going to steal our right of way and be everywhere soon, like trash on wheels. Amazon already has too much presence on the streets and next they're coming for our trails.

https://www.courthousenews.com/judge-orders-trial-in-tesla-autopilot-manslaughter-case/

quote:

At the preliminary hearing, in which a judge decides whether or not there is probable cause for a case to proceed to trial, Tesla engineer Eloy Rubio-Blanco testified that Riad had engaged the car’s “Autopilot” function about 20 minutes before the crash. The feature is akin to a sophisticated version of cruise control. The car will maintain a certain speed, set by the driver, unless it detects a car in front of it; when it does, it slows down to match the speed of that car, following at a distance set by the Tesla’s driver. It also automatically steers the car to stay in the center of the lane. Drivers using the Autopilot mode are given a series of warnings, by the car, if their hands ever leave the steering wheel.

Rubio-Blanco, who examined diagnostic data in Riad’s car after the crash, told the court that Riad’s hands had been on the car’s steering wheel, which means he was not warned. Riad had initially set his car’s speed to 77 mph; he then set it to 78 mph, and then finally changed the speed to 75 mph. At the time of the crash, the car was going approximately 74 mph.

Riad was driving on the 91 freeway, heading west into Gardena. The freeway empties out into Artesia Boulevard at Vermont, but Riad, seemingly unaware of that transition, did not appear to react — and neither did his Tesla. Rubio-Blanco said there was no indication Riad hit the brakes or turned the steering wheel, even as his car hurtled into Lopez’s vehicle.

...

Riad’s attorney Arthur Barens called no witnesses. He argued that Riad’s actions — driving 74 mph on a surface street — did not rise to “gross negligence” and should not be considered a felony. Were it not for the crash, he said, “we all know they would give him a ticket.”

A quick google suggests the speed limit on Artesia Boulevard is either 40 or 45mph. Not a fan of just sending more people to jail, but the whole situation is hosed (also this is definitely mostly on Tesla, they know how their cars are being used).

A freeway that just dumps out straight into a busy urban thoroughfare seems, uh, not good. I wonder how many high speeds wrecks there are that don't get reported on because they don't feature professor muskman's self-crashing future car™

There are plenty of warnings before you get there, having driven there the only way you're going to miss that the freeway is ending is if you're completely zoned out

also, the article notes that this particular driver had been cited for six moving violations in the three years before this accident. these cars give their rich, dipshit, arrogant owners a sense of overconfidence. that and they don't care about the plebs around them.

It was really nice of the city to make our buses fare-free, but they're still not going to get much ridership when routes stop at 6 pm and some routes only run once an hour. I really try to take the bus but it constantly screws me.

were they turning right on red? or just blasting through a red?

thinking about it, most pedestrian fatalities are probably red-light related. Maybe we can get rid of red lights?
