After spending months reading Telegram posts because of the stupid war. I reached the conclusion that any claims about censorship ever made are complete bullshit. Russians are just as terminaly online as anyone here ajd see all the stupid poo poo that gets posted to twitter no problem. The people that don't know or follow any of that poo poo don't give a gently caress in the first place. That's not censorship, not directly anyway, but making the general public politicaly uninvolved and that poo poo happens, I assume, everywhere.

they even do the same pixel squinting and geolocating that west osint claims it is super good at it

main difference seems to be that the russian equivalent is pooling resources together in a collaborative system and is able to post coordinates of important but boring stuff like train substations and repair workshops

no, see, that’s imperialist hard power because they use predatory loans to bankrupt governments and then hoover up all the infrastructure (I assume). that’s tantamount to military invasion. soft power is a buff man wearing your flag as a costume and fighting a robot on tv

Yeah, actually, gamers in the house forever,
china's soft power in terms of international media is quite pitiful all things considered. i mean you're not going to accomplish what took the u.s. decades to do overnight, but they dont even have any decent propaganda like RT/VoA/DW/France 24. also they should study the master, jimmy carter. so good at expanding soft power that to this day "both sides" praise/hate him for being a dove with his duplicitous warmongering

chinese soft power is pretty poo poo these days and is much worse than it was 10 let alone 20 years ago but i'm honestly kind of surprised by how bad basically every country is at soft power other than like, israel and south korea, like you'd think that there'd be an ebb and flow where e.g. the us or turkey gets worse at it and somebody else steps in, but nope just watching the us russia china and japan all just get worse at it simultaneously together

there’s a book that came out recently called Red Carpet about how China is using old Hollywood techniques to grow their soft power and kickstart their blockbuster movie industry, I haven’t read it yet but a friend who is really into studying soft power and propaganda told me it was good. the summary on Amazon makes it sound very anti-China though so idk if I feel like reading through that

chinese film making surpassed hollywood years ago and continues to accelerate past the bloated marvel and pedophilia extended universe that are our only modern outputs

that qualifies as soft power and they've got some pretty good television as well

America still has the most powerful cultural output, and probably the best too for whatever that's worth. That will probably not change until long after the empire has collapsed.

this is so funny, at work i'm using a 12 year old imac to do computer janitoring, and outside of microsoft's web interface (we just migrated to exchange online, what a shitshow of a GUI jesus fuckin christ), i've yet to see anything not perform well. like, just don't load 3 gigs of useless javascript for every click in your app and even a 10+ year old cpu works fine lmao

Its already happening with some movies. China might make movies that trounce ours in their home market but cant really export them, their soft power though is just the sheer size of the market making it so western producers try to make movies more tailored for their market

it's just, outside of a few really bad cases of javascript bloat, i haven't seen anything not perform fine, compared to my home pc which is running on a new-ish ryzen. i'm gonna ask for a new workbox because exchange online is literally unusable tho, clicking on a user takes like 30s for the properties panel on the right to fully load lmao

Expert analysis of the audio clip posted on the YouTube channel of Lude Media appears authentic, reported The Times Of India, a New Delhi-based news media. The viral audio clip was also shared by Jennifer Zeng, a China-born human rights activist, on her Twitter handle. Zeng also published the transcript on her website.

quote:

Zheng (Jennifer) Zeng was a graduate in science from Beijing University. She was a wife, a mother, and a Communist Party member. But because she followed a spiritual practice called Falun Gong, her life in China was shattered. Adhering to the practice’s simple tenets of Truth, Compassion, and Forbearance, she was amazed that the Party would institute a crack down, arrest her and demand that she recant. After twice being held at a detention center and refusing, she was sentenced without trial to reeducation through forced labor. Her “enlightenment”-in part undertaken by fellow prisoners incarcerated for prostitution, pornography and drug addiction-took the form of beatings, torture with electric prods, starvation, sleep deprivation, and forced labor. She was compelled to knit for days at a time, her hands bleeding, to produce goods contracted for sale in the US market. Many Falun Gong practitioners died under the harsh conditions. Zheng Zeng was lucky.

Thousands of others remain deprived by an oppressive Chinese government of their freedom of speech and assembly and the freedom to believe as they choose. This is the testament to her ordeal and theirs.

not doing better, are better. they don't really put any effort into translating and pushing this stuff internationally as far as i can tell, with a few notable exceptions, so it's really easy to miss. the Battle of Lake Changjin about a crew of goofy dudes doing brutal videogame takedowns of orc US marines in the korean war is a notable one, and Legend of Deification/investiture of the gods is a really good looking animated film that actually got a pretty good english dub somehow. not to mention all the crazy kung fu/wuxia movies hong kong has been putting out for decades but I don't know if those are an entirely different film ecosystem or what
