That SRO has blood on his hands but I guess the cops are going for the charitable reading of - the shooter got past the SRO, shot two other cops approaching him, and locked himself into a classroom where he killed everyone in it. Then the reinforcements have him pinned in the room, figured everyone was dead anyways, so they hung around with dicks in hand for 40 minutes. If only a couple of the 10 year olds had guns they could’ve been the good guys

If you account for these factors a very clear picture of "guns don't help" is painted.

1) Being in possession of a firearm yourself when you are the victim of an assault makes you 4.5x more more likely to be shot than an unarmed person, and 4x more likely to die.
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2759797/

2) For every one justified case of self defense with a firearm, there are eleven successful gun-related suicides:
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/9715182/

3) Using the same sample data from #2, fewer than 3% of firearms related homicides are justified self defense.

4) So that means that for every one person carrying a gun and using it for self defense, four to five are killed because they were carrying a gun.

5) Also being in posesssion of a firearm when you are the victim of a violent crime does not make you any less likely to be injured than an unarmed person:
https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0091743515001188

How much of the "having a gun gets you killed" is a matter of police shooting someone who possesses a gun and cooperated? I have a feeling there might be a strong correlation to gun possession and cop-related death.

Tangentially, how many not-gun owners were killed when they were assumed to have a gun by cops?

My point is, cops are probably the #2 #1 reason gun ownership escalation happens among marginalized groups. I'd guess the #2 is probably being in a marginalized group in the first place. The most ironic part is, cops not doing their job means people talk about taking guns away, so in effect, cops are behind the buying sprees that proceed mass murder events like this, which is partly why those crazy anti-government types buy a ton of guns before "Obummer comes to take all your guns and your white wife"

They let him go in there to kill kids.

They stood by while he killed kids.

The parents begged them to do something while he killed kids and they said no.

If you told me this a few weeks ago I would call it a bad SNL sketch.

I work for a small school district, and before the school year started a few years ago, we had a presentation from a local cop about school shootings. He said they recommend schools have a 'run, hide, fight' policy. Run away if you can, if the shooter isn't nearby. If you can't run, hide, preferably with a heavy locked door and any barricades you can manage to get into place. And, as an absolute last resort, fight with whatever you have available if the shooter finds you.
He also said the local police departments have a policy that the first people on scene to an active shooter threat go in. Immediately. They don't wait for backup, they don't wait for orders, they go in and try their damnedest to stop the shooter, to the point where they are told to not try to help any wounded; the shooter takes priority over everything.
Apparently the Uvalde PD haven't considered this policy.

There should have been a loving wall of dead cops between the shooter's car and the first dead kid.

They couldn't afford to shoot the killer because of all the defund the police campaigns. Bullets don't grow on trees you know.
