Someone mentioned this earlier and I meant to ask: Why exactly did Munchie "almost break the writers' room"?

Trying to plan out my evening to balance out this and the Obi-Wan premiere, TIA

Can I ask ya somethin', Padre? When I was kickin' your ass back there... you get a little wood?

Just finished watching Munchie, it's got some great riffing (they go pretty dark with it too).

If I had to guess, it's because it's an entirely predictable bad kids film, and Munchie is (on top of the puppet being terrifying) obnoxious and annoying.

There's a great host segment (with a character I'm not familiar with? Dr. Phibes? I guess she was on the live tours, I've never seen those) where she explains the lineage of '80s small monsters starting with Gremlins.

Yeah Dr Phibes was originally on the first set of tours with Jonah and the Netflix crew. IIRC she's played by Jonah's wife.

Having just finished the episode here's my guess: The off-putting creature puppet, the inexplicable Dom Deluise performance? It's Mac and Me without the charm. They probably we're just having one of those days. Just a lovely mid-90s ET/genie movie rip-off.

That said, a good episode.

Dr. Phibes showed up in one of the Netflix movies briefly, but she had a big part in the live show I saw about the giant brain terrorizing some Canadian town.

I gotta wonder if they’re putting all the Joel episodes at the end of the season. Which is perfectly fine except for the fact that I can’t be sure which Tom Servo is gonna sing the theme song for his episodes and I kind of hope it’s J. Elvis.

A fun MST-related anecdote: When I was a kid, I was very into Sherlock Holmes (still am really), and I acquired an FMV game called Sherlock Holmes: Consulting Detective. In one of the cases, one of the cutscenes you could get from going out and gathering evidence was Holmes talking to a clearly crazy Egyptologist at a museum. I REALLY liked the crazy Egyptologist and was sincerely disappointed that there weren’t more clips of him rambling about how the mummies would be gloriously reborn or whatever.

Turns out the crazy guy was played by Bill Corbett.

Wait, the episode happened already? What happened to airing them live at 8?

I see it in my library at Gizmoplex, but I didn’t get an email this week. I guess I missed that from a previous email?

There was an email this week, but this was announced a few weeks ago. They’re still doing the premieres at 8, but the episodes are going up at midnight eastern. It’s an attempt to better accommodate people who live in time zones where they can’t watch the live premieres.

Edit: It isn't even a good puppet, it just kind of moves at random.

It's like someone told the puppeteer that they need to move everything all the time.

edit: One of Munchie's appearances I muttered "oh god" to myself. A minute later Munchie reappears in another spot and Jonah says the same thing.

This is the second movie I've seen where Dom DeLouise voices a nonhuman thing and doesn't do any kind of voice acting. He's just Dom DeLouise talking like Dom DeLouise, basically acting like Dom DeLouise. The other movie is the Skateboard Kid. Jesus christ, my life.

The kid fantasizing stuff was fine. Not good, but fine. It's Dom DeLuise who is just sucking all of the energy out of the room. Well, Dom and that god awful puppet.
