Here to deliver
~Bad Opinions~

Reading through the plans for the rest of 2022, it sounds like plenty more big titles are on the horizon. They already have deals with Universal and MGM. Probably safe to expect more from Cannon’s catalog coming soon.

Most of my sale pickups are partner titles. Still debating on a lot of Saturn’s Core titles. SoV can be pretty hit or miss sometimes.

Stuff they also explicitly confirmed for the rest of the year

July:
Shriek of the Mutilated

August:
Forgotten Gialli vol 5

October:
4K Texas Chainsaw Massacre Part 2

November:
Home Grown Horrors vol 2 (including Moonstalker)

Definitely getting Forgotten Gialli

Keep in mind that schedule is not set in stone, I missed it during the last sale, but I like to print out that schedule and tac it to my cubicle wall. For the most part things will stay about the same, but you might get some titles moved up, and down in the schedule. There have also been a couple titles over the years that just never materialized (I assume due to rights issues).

I'm also miffed that I have to wait until October for TCM 2.

Couldn't fit it all into one screenshot which may be a sign I went overboard for my first sale on the site I went through with :ohdear: Joining my collection (the Forgotten Gialli sets, Camille Keaton set, and Knife+Heart) will be

Putney Swope
Her Smell
Rebels of the Neon God
Films of Doris Wishman
Trauma
I Do Not Care if We Go Down in History as Barbarians
Tough Guys Don't Dance

All but Her Smell and Trauma were blind buys I've heard good-to-great things about

Putney Swope and Rebels of the Neon God stock were getting low, def jump on it if you were keeping an eye on either

So far I’ve picked up:

Thriller
Love After Death
Satan’s Blood
Horror High/Stanley
WNUF Halloween Special
Ilya Muromets (there were only 53 left when I snagged it!)

I’m on the fence but also thinking about grabbing the Camille Keaton collection, a blind buy for me. Any thoughts on that one from anyone who’s seen the films?

You'll probably be able to get Putney Swope through VS again, they just need to get a new batch of discs pressed. Even the stuff that they don't reprint may end up elsewhere, for example Action USA is available as part of the MVD Rewind collection.

Everyone should own Action USA, because Action USA owns.

I'd watch Incredibly Strange Creatures... just for the fact that Vilmos Zsigmond (McCabe and Mrs. Miller, Blow Out, Close Encounters of the Third Kind), Laszlo Kovacs (Ghostbusters, Easy Rider, Five Easy Pieces), and Joseph Mascelli (writer of "The Five Cs of Cinematography") shot it.

Indeed it does, so ahead of its time. I always try to sell people on it whenever people ask what to buy from VinSyn.

My favorite VinSyn releases so far:

Putney Swope - One of the Great 60s independents. Endlessly funny, slickly made, and plenty of quotes. A must-see if you're a fan of Paul Thomas Anderson. The Blu is from the 4K restoration funded by George Lucas' foundation for restoration.

Christmas Evil - While I bet this is ripe for a UHD upgrade, still an essential. Way smarter than you'd think from a slasher and incredibly well photographed (the lighting alone is gorgeous) with a wonderful lead performance by Brandon Maggart. I had a smile on my face a mile wide at the midnight mass bit.

Liquid Sky - The very first release I purchased and it's a real trip. Probably my pick of a movie I'd love to see while on acid.

Fade to Black - I feel personally called out by this film. Wonderful homage to classic cinema with a horror twist. Dennis Christopher should have won an Oscar for his performance if just for the hair salon scene.

Also, everyone should absolutely buy the AGFA/Bleeding Skull release of The Macpherson Tape. Easily the most frightening film I've seen in years.

There's a chance The Warriors is among the Kino Lorber/Paramount licenses, especially since all 16 UHDs they're releasing will be titles Paramount put out on Blu-ray themselves and largely new restorations.

Paramount is only working with Criterion and Shout! Factory otherwise, in terms of US labels.

Warner is still the only studio being picky about licenses, only working with Criterion and Shout (two Arrow titles were one-offs) and Disney/Fox licensing is dead except for the few Criterion titles they've had an ongoing deal for.
