I'm an obtuse man,
so I'll try to be oblique.
Looking at that map reminds me that the game really needs a pass on mapgen. There should be options. I'd prefer larger islands instead of snakey landmasses. Something like that would provide a bit more variety, and could make for more realistic features, like rivers.

It takes 5 clicks to get into my server, and then a password screen. This is incredibly irritating.

You can set a launch option in steam to connect to a specific server.
code:
 +connect <server address:port>
Also if you don't wanna deal with the password screen you can just remove the password from your server.

I started playing this game "V Rising" per a friend saying it was similar to Valheim. Have any other goons tried it? I don't see any SA threads or mentions of it so far.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1604030/V_Rising/

It's a survival crafting vampire game and it was released yesterday as (heavens forbid) early access. I'm not really sure it's that similar to Valheim but I've only played for like 10 minutes sooo

There's private servers and PvE/PvP clans and exploration and base-building and Diablo-esque combat/loot and all that jazz plus hot vampire blood-sucking action. Seems pretty polished? But again, I've only played like 10 minutes. My only accomplishment thus far is finishing my vampiresona, Flamingo Dubois:

Vampires seem oddly fitting for a crafter survival protagonist since usually the player character is draining the land of resources, killing untold hundreds if not thousands of the local inhabitants to increase their own power and eventually almost every one of them ends up in a giant castle while their minions wait around for them.

Valheim has spoiled me for survival games. Whenever a new one releases my first question is "in what ways is it shittier than Valheim?"

Well, V Rising doesn't let you teleport with ANY harvested resources. So, in that way it's worse than Valheim.

There's actually a server setting for that.

I am still hoping that the stone cutter and Artificer's Table get some crafting recipies. Maybe the artificers table can grant sidegrades to "uptier" older gear etc. Also, id like to see more uses for silver and blacksteel and linen items.

I really wish that instead of the stonecutter there was a "mason's hammer" or similar. Relocating the table when building with stone is a pain.

Yeah, would be much more satisfying to make stone roads if you didn't have to plop down a table every 20 meters, could just load your pockets up with rocks and go to town.

Stone paths should just be an upgrade to the hoe, but requires you to add it at a stonecutter. That way you aren't "skipping" anything progression-wise but don't need to keep slapping down a workstation every few meters.

Is there any way to deal with stone golems that isn't "wait for them to despawn"? They can't really be dealt with at range and they're so ludicrously durable that it's almost a foregone conclusion that you'll gently caress up and get instagibbed at some point if you try to get close to them.

The slightest touch from a Gol-Shogeg will result in Instant Death!
Kite them around whilst shooting them, it takes a while; you can often cheese their pathing if you have pits or big rocks around.

Or get a good buckler and git gud at parrying.

In theory they're most vulnerable to pickaxes but IME it's not worth shoting for the vuln given the very slow attacks.

It takes a lot of arrows but kiting the same way you do trolls or abominations works fine. The biggest problem is all the wolves and poo poo you wake up in the process. They also have terrible pathfinding.

The pick does obliterate them but it's too dangerous unless you can get on their head. Even then I usually only get a couple whacks before falling off and having to run.

If there's a cliff nearby and you can lure them into following you down there it really abuses the pathfinding.

Stone Golems are weak to the Pickaxe. 2 options. Circle and roll dodge at them and get a few hits in. Roll dodge give you a few i frames. Option 2: pop Bonemass power and laugh at them. I recommend not fighting them near a cliff because their hits can knock you down.

Abominations: a good shield and an axe work very well. You csn just tank with shield and cut it down.

Bonemass power, parry, and any non frostner weapon imo, for stone golems. But better not to wake them up, tbh.

Good advice. I think my first death in the game (all the people I played with died early and often, but no, not me) was being completely launched off a mountain peak by a stone golem.

You can cheese it and trap them in a pit deep enough that they can't walk out. They don't despawn for a long time and will aggro wolves and drakes. If you're mining nearby, that means not being interrupted every 30 seconds while also getting the materials from killing them.

Otherwise, parry and hit with anything that isn't a spear. An iron mace will do the job in about three full combos. You will pay dearly if you mistime the parry window, though. At least they're slow so it's usually not a difficult corpse run.

Bonemass powerup completely cheeses them. I use that and parry/mace, and they go down very quickly.

I used an iron mace for the stone golems. It’s not that hard to dodge-roll their attacks. Parrying is possible too. They also do this thing where they run around instead of attacking for a few seconds where you can get a couple of free hits in. Note that the silver mace (frostner) is worse than iron mace against them because of damage type.

Yes.
Nthing just using a mace and shield against stone golems. Most of their attacks are easy enough to parry and an upgraded iron mace does quite a number on them.

Pickaxe works in a pinch, too, but it's slow and you're rooted to the spot during the attack animation, so it's pretty awkward. Better be on point with dodge rolling.

Being rooted to the ground while an animation plays is my biggest petpeeve in this game. It feels like animation design from 2010. The worst thing is that all mobs have this problem. You can simply step away from most enemy attacks in a lot of circumstances. Even the sea serpent will miss most of its attacks if you are just sailing away because its attack animation stops its movement. I want to see an animation overhaul very much. Decoupling upper torso anims from the lower body wpuld be a good first step.

This would be huge and completely change up combat. I am a fan of that. It definitely feels pretty clunky and like you said the Serpent is a complete chump when you realise you can just sail away. It's no threat to a raft of all things.

Just fought Moder for the first time. Christ, I thought the Elder was a brainless arrow sponge but this was 10x worse. I ended up having to cheat to win, and even then my bow broke THREE TIMES pumping that fucker full of arrows. I really don't understand the absolute infatuation the devs have with making every single boss except one into an arrow sponge and nothing else.

Yeah I've fought Moder a couple times and she's absolutely not that kind of damage sponge. Like sure, plink her with some poison arrows or something* while she's airborne, but also clobber her in the face when she lands. Not trying to sound smug or anything, but if the fight is dragging on that badly for you, something's wrong somewhere.
