Gus would be that friend who took 45 minutes to meticulously roll a joint followed by a further 15 minutes admiring their own handiwork while everyone else complains and smokes the joint they rolled in 5 minutes waiting for him to finish his masturbatory exercise

And what's really frustrating is that this would have done a half-hour ago, except that one of his friends said he knew a guy who could get them slightly better weed (even though what you already had was still really good) and then that guy ends up burning your house down.

Mark Margolis wasn’t even acting in the scene he kills Gus’s partner. He just showed up on set that day and killed the guy, luckily Vince had the cameras rolling.

walt would take one puff and cough up a storm and he'd say it was your fault for getting skunk weed regardless of quality a day later his wife shows up at your doorstep and threatens to report you to the police a year later you're blazin with your buds and he phones you up to let you know you all had ricin tokes you have not seen him at all that year The World Inferno posted:Just realized, the reason he says "better call Saul" is because he wants his clients to call ahead, and not show up unannounced at his apartment where they could murder old non-criminal friends who are visiting. this is the moment walt became heisenberg

As far as I know, there are a number of lovely stinky flowers in western north america that just get called Skunk Weed all the time because they smell like a skunk's butt spray. It has forever been tradition for high schoolers to roll some of that poo poo up in trash paper to sell to middle schoolers claiming it's, like totally, killer weed and will get you high as gently caress little dudes.

Gus's relationship with the doctor makes him more sympathetic, as does seeing Gus in a state of physical vulnerability after he poisons himself to kill the cartel. There's also his sponsorship of that Mexican shtetl, which Mike himself points out makes Gus superficially sympathetic (and Gus himself acknowledges that it doesn't really change the reality that Gus is a bad person). His speech to Hector suggests that he grew up in horrible poverty, which makes him sympathetic until the same speech shows that it hardened him into a ruthless torturer. He is a good guy in Latin America and a bad guy in the United States of America.

What I find sympathetic about Gus is his main motivation in life is to gently caress over the very bad people who ruined his life, no matter the cost. He's not driven by greed for money or power, but spite and revenge. He is a bad guy who does bad things but it's all necessary for his plan to amass enough independent power to challenge and defeat the Cartel. He may be a sociopath but it feels at times like he was made into one by circumstance.

Eladio says something like "the only reason you're still alive is because I know who you are" to Gus after Max is killed, doesn't he? It's definitely something to do with Allende/Pinochet but I agree that this thread is better left a mystery.
