Tyranny is extremely cool and was shaping up to be one of my favourite crpgs but then it just... ended... Like out of the blue, ended. Building up to something loving awesome, and then nope it's over. Still really worth playing but it does feel unfinished, even in the gameplay in some ways. Crafting your own spells was really unique and fun though. I did not play the DLC.

I own Tyranny but have not yet played it even though I did pay for it, so I can't speak from personal experience. However, I've heard a few people call it a 'game that ran out of something'. What that something was... money, time, the effort of the creators, the support of a studio etc is up for debate, but it was a very good game idea that was let down by a lack of who-knows-what.

It doesn't feel unfinished, but it does feel like the first book in a series. One that may never get any sequels. Like if Star Wars ended on A New Hope.

It felt unfinished in terms of gameplay rather than story. You're told about how different various factions are but then you fight them on any difficulty and they require the same tactics. You capture those spires that provide you with cool sounding facilities but you don't actually have to use them at all.

The DLC isn't good as something you buy for $15 but it's ok as far as actual content. It's just about the same level of quality as the rest of the game except a bit buggier, which is a disappointment as Obsidian's DLC/expansions tend to improve on the base game a fair bit

I don't know if Chaos gate is any good, but there is an excellent 40k mod for Open Xcom with custom maps, marines, imperial guard, and tons of enemy factions. One of the more impressive mods for old xcom. I had some fun trying to make a run as the IG, but once I started facing Chaos space marines I was slaughtered like a lamb. https://openxcom.mod.io/40k
